Carolina

Lately I’ve been crushing on [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Lina[/name_f]. I would pronounce it [name_f]Carol[/name_f]-eena not [name_f]Carol[/name_f] - eyena (like the state). Would you pronounce it like that as well if you saw it? Any middle name suggestions? Thank you!!

Definitely “carol-eena”

I think you could swing one of two ways with MNs… long and classic (e.g. [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], etc), or go for short and sweet (e.g. [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], etc). The name lends itself to either, but I think it definitely lends itself to classic or old style middle names.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]! DH’s grandmother is named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. It sounds really nice with [name_f]Carolina[/name_f].

Haha. You’re welcome. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is not my cup of tea, but I agree that it does sound lovely with [name_f]Carolina[/name_f].

I would have to ask, since I’ve known people that used both prn.

I like [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] pronounced the way you’ve indicated.
I also really like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

I would pronounce it [name_f]Carol[/name_f]-ee-na. It’s beautiful and wears well on any age. The combo suggestion of [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is gorgeous!! I also like:

[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Blanche[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, but I’d pronounce the second to last syllable as “line,” like the state or like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I’d be more likely to pronounce [name_f]Karolina[/name_f] the way you pronounce it.

I’d pronounce it like the state first. But your pronunciation could grow on me.

I would pronounce it like the state. I never even knew there was another pronunciation, but I like your pronunciation better.

Definitely “carol-eena” for me.

[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]

I much prefer [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] like the state to the [name_f]Caroleena[/name_f] pronunciation, but I think it’s okay to just explain to people.

I love [name_f]Carolina[/name_f]! I’m currently considering it with the nn [name_f]Cara[/name_f]. (I like [name_f]Lina[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f] as well, but at this point, [name_f]Cara[/name_f], which honors my mom and paternal grandmother, is more significant to me.) I’ve only ever heard it pronounced as a name with the lee-nah ending, so that’s instinctively how I say it, but I’m sure I’d adjust if someone told me otherwise.

I like the suggestion of [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], especially since it is a family name! I’ve had a bugger of a time with coming up with combos–[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f] were as close as I’ve come in the past, but I hesitate to use a flower name after [name_f]Carolina[/name_f], because it starts to look like a type of flower (i.e. - is [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] an adorable little girls’ name, or the name of a daisy indigenous to one of the Carolinas?). I like the idea of a long and classic name, though, and [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is also gorgeous!

If you like the -leena pronunciation, I prefer the [name_f]Karolina[/name_f] spelling. This seems more intuitive to me for that pronunciation. I would definitely pronounce [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] like the state.

I would say it like the state. I’ve actually never it heard it any other way. [name_f]Karolina[/name_f] wouldn’t change my pronunciation. I would say [name_f]Carolena[/name_f] like you want though

I would pronounce it [name_f]Carol[/name_f]-eye-nah. I don’t think a K would change anything for me; I’m sort of confused by people say it would change the pronounciation for them? K and C would have the same sound in this instance, and that’s not even the syllable in question. If you want the pronounciation to be abundantly clear I think [name_f]Caroleena[/name_f] is the only spelling that would not cause confusion. [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] is a much more attractive spelling but if you use it, you’ll just have to be okay with correcting people. Good luck!

Middle name suggestions (I really like [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]!):
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
