Carolyne vs Caroline

Hello fellow berries!!

So I’m not pregnant yet but names are my favorite! I’ve put a lot of thought into my girl’s name. [name_f]Carol[/name_f] is my mothers’ middle name and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] happens to be my mother in law’s! Put the two together and you get a perfect classy yet not totally common name.

However, [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] sounds too old and I prefer the pronociation [name_f]Carol[/name_f]-[name_f]LINE[/name_f]. So my question is [name_f]Carolyne[/name_f] or [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I want to honor my [name_f]MIL[/name_f]'s spelling but is it too different?

Oh and for what it’s worth, middle name will be [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] like me. Thx in advance!!

I would suggest [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. [name_f]Carolyne[/name_f] would cause problems with confusion about spelling, so I would stick with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. That way you’re still honoring both your mother and your mother in law. I think [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is still honored by [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

Also I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u].

I hope this helps!

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] for sure. The other spelling is a little much.

I’d go with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is classic, feminine and elegant. I think that name is suitable to honour [name_f]Carol[/name_f] and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]. I don’t find the [name_f]Carolyne[/name_f] spelling very appealing.

Definitely [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f].

Definitely [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], it definitely still honors [name_f]Carol[/name_f] and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], but it’s much classier and prettier.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. The other one’s misspelled and raises questions about the parents’ literacy.

I actually sort of like [name_f]Carolyne[/name_f], but not in a way that I would actually promote it as an actual child’s name, if that makes sense? It’s a cool idea, but I think you’d still have a hassle with always correcting the spelling, and I think people could conceivably still wonder if it’s [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] is very pretty, and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a perfect way to honor a [name_f]Carol[/name_f] and a [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]!

Good luck!

Thank you all for your input! You confirmed what I was leaning towards.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] it is! Thanks again!

[name_f]Carolyne[/name_f] is still pronounced [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f], just with a superfluous “e”, so if you want the [name_u]Caro[/name_u]-line sound, you’d best spell it that way.

I love the name [name_f]Carolyne[/name_f].

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is very elegant looking, whereas I personally feel that the look of [name_f]Carolyne[/name_f] cheapens the name. I feel as though [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] still honours both [name_f]Carol[/name_f] and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].

I prefer [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. [name_f]Carolyne[/name_f] seems too much like a creative spelling of [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]. Also, [name_f]Carolyne[/name_f] will probably be pronounced like [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
