Carter - Why do you like this name or dislike it?

Husband has been dead set in [name_u]Carter[/name_u] for our next boy. I’m not against it but just wondering if anyone has thoughts on the name to help me see it better.

carter is nice it’s not a favourite of mine but i definitely think it ticks a lot of boxes it’s cool and fits in with the surname as first name trends as well as being gender neutral (although i’d say it leans masculine to me). it’s quite popular but doesn’t feel too overdone or super expected like james or noah.

overall i think it’s a nice, solid choice xx

Hmm, it’s just not my personal style: I don’t like surname names since they sound quite trendy to me, and I usually like names that have a nickname, which Carter doesn’t really.

That said, it’s objectively a very solid choice! Familiar but not overdone, easy to spell and pronounce and quite versatile.

It’s not really my style but it’s a nice name for other people. It’s a fun name that is popular right now but still feels timeless enough.

I really like it! It has solid strong consonant sounds without sounding too harsh. It sounds modern but not trendy. It’s familiar but not too overused.

[name_u]Carter[/name_u] is probably one of my favorite surname names!

I think [name_u]Carter[/name_u] is nice. It’s pretty familiar, but not overused. It’s unisex, which I like in a name.

I love surnames as first names and [name_u]Carter[/name_u] is one of my favorites!

I think of [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] [name_u]Carter[/name_u].

I like it! It is rather popular but if that doesn’t bother you- it’s a great name

I love it, one of my all time favorites!!

I like [name_u]Carter[/name_u] and it was a name I would have considered at one point in my life. One of my first boss’s name was [name_u]Carter[/name_u] and he was a huge supporter of mine and actually passed away just as I graduated from college. His next grandchild born had [name_u]Carter[/name_u] as her mn after him.
I was no where near having kids then but it was always on my list. Now that I’m in that phase of my life, it feels a little too buttoned up for my taste. Plus, I know several little Carter’s.
A name I like, but not sure I would use. I say go for it if you and your husband agree!

Reminds me of [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and [name_u]Nick[/name_u] [name_u]Carter[/name_u], so it feels very late 90s/early 2000s to me, but not everyone will have that association.

Though I typically like surname names, [name_u]Carter[/name_u] is one of the few I actively dislike. At this point it feels dated and bland and I’d assume a [name_u]Carter[/name_u] was more likely to be somewhere in the 10-20 age range than a newborn.

For me, it’s one of those names where it has good things going for it (not overly controversial, easy to spell, familiar, etc) but yet I dislike it. I dislike it every time I hear it and I know quite a few boys by this name. Perhaps one reason is that it feels like an eternal little boy name to me. I picture a little boy with a bowl cut but can’t picture a grown man named [name_u]Carter[/name_u]. Certainly they exist but still.

Eh, it’s alright. There’s nothing wrong with it, but I’m not a fan of surnames or occupational names (in general). Carter is one that I have a hard time seeing as a first name rather than a last name. (I also think of Jimmy Carter)

I’m not a fan. It’s just not my style, whatever that means. I like a few occupational surnames as first names, like [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] or [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], but [name_u]Carter[/name_u] really sounds like a surname to me.
As the previous poster said, I think of [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] [name_u]Carter[/name_u], and even worse, of [name_u]Nick[/name_u] & [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] [name_u]Carter[/name_u].

i enjoy the sharp sound of carter - although to me it with most surname names feels a little trendy and that it will quickly date

I really like [name_u]Carter[/name_u]. There’s a classic fantasy novel called “The High House” and the protagonist is named [name_u]Carter[/name_u]. He’s brave, loyal, relatable and smart, and I picture him when I hear the name.
