Carys

Moooooooooo

I have known several who all pronounce it Care-iss! [name]Hope[/name] that helps!

[name]Hi[/name], I speak Welsh and can confirm Care-iss is wrong :S

It should be [name]CA[/name]-riss, rhymes with [name]Paris[/name].

I’m sure I’ve been responsible for butchering plenty of French and Spanish names in my time lol, but [name]Carys[/name] is very easy pronounce when you know how and I have to admit it does annoy me when people use Welsh names on their children and then pronounce them incorrectly!

[name]Trust[/name] me, it even happens here in [name]Wales[/name] with non-Welsh speaking parents and always makes me cringe. I just think if you’re going to use a name from another culture you should do your best to research how to pronounce it correctly!

[name]Hope[/name] that doesn’t come across too uppity :S But anyway, yeah it is a beautiful name and I think you should use it! hehe

I just wrote a post on this name with the same question…glad iam not the only one. I say Care-is to…alot of times I will say its like [name]Paris[/name] with a K. Iam not to fond of the CAR is but i think it can be pronounced both ways

Not uppity at all!! I completely agree with you and I would never use a name I wasn’t positive I was saying the right way!!!

I’m sorry but I’m still a little confused so let me see if I can clarify…You said it’s like [name]Paris[/name] but it is not Care-iss :frowning: maybe I’m not typing my phonetics correctly. I say the first part “Cair”, rhymes with “hair” or “Pair” like in [name]Paris[/name]. Is this correct? Haha, sorry if I’m being difficult, just want to get it right.

Oh god, I bet it’s the whole UK/US thing! Lol. When I say [name]Paris[/name] it doesn’t have a Pair in it lol. I see it with a short “a”.

The [name]Ca[/name] part would be the same as the sounds in [name]Lad[/name] or [name]Cat[/name]? A very short a sound.

You can listen to is being said here:

Though obviously you don’t have to roll your r quite as much as the very Welshy man saying it on that website! Hehe.

Lawls! Wow, I hadn’t thought that we might not be saying [name]Paris[/name] the same way. I’m from the mid south in the US so that may effect it as well. Thank you for the link, that helped a lot. Beautiful name either way but I’m happy it’s the pronounciation I loved!!

Whoa! [name]How[/name] do I pronounce [name]Paris[/name] now?

I’m in [name]Canada[/name] and pronounce it Pair-iss. So, ermmm… I’ll re-read the posts to try to figure out [name]Carys[/name].

I say Car not Care and Iss.

Thanks [name]Rollo[/name]!

According to babynamesworld.com, [name]Carys[/name] is pronounced KAH riss. It would be so much simpler if all these baby names sites had pronunciations!

[name]Caris[/name] like paris. nn [name]Carrie[/name].
