Now i like this name… quite alot,
It means [name]Angel[/name] of thursday! / “My cover is God” in Theophory in the Bible (and misha collins plays a character in supernatural called this also)
Jus wanted to know what you think of it…

It’s so tied to Supernatural. Trying to think of it as a baby name, I can only imagine it being used by a Supernatural super-fan. It does have an appealing sound, but I would recommend against using it as a first name because it’s so tied to one specific pop culture figure. For someone absolutely set on using it, I would suggest using it as a middle name or using an alternative like [name]Casper[/name], [name]Cashel[/name], [name]Castor[/name], [name]Cassian[/name], something along those lines. There are a lot of lovely, underused [name]Cas[/name]- names out there.
I love it, and I’m an avid Supernatural watcher.
I say use it, I also like [name]Caspian[/name].
I like it spelt [name]Cassiel[/name] better. Castiel isn’t particularly more legit as a transliteration and it also reminds me Castile, Spain in general and Castile soap in particular.
In terms of obscure angel names, I like quite a lot of them for boys, including [name]Cassiel[/name], Zadkiel, [name]Hadriel[/name], and Katriel among others. My first pick wouldn’t be what other people would think of as “the one from Supernatural.”
Is it pronounced cass-[name]TEEL[/name]? If so, all I’d be able to think of is castile soap.
Castiel was invented for Supernatural, so it is 100% tied to the character. Castiel is a spin on [name]Cassiel[/name], a legitimate angel name. I’m a massive fan of the show, and while I would use [name]Dean[/name] or [name]Samuel[/name] in a heartbeat, Castiel would be a bright, shining declaration of devotion - more than I would be comfortable with. Definitely don’t use it unless you’re a fan of Supernatural.
ETA: To clarify, Castiel is a great character. The association isn’t bad, just very obvious (at least to the people who watch Supernatural).
Never watched Supernatural. I immediately thought of castile soap. I like [name]Cassiel[/name], and I want to like Castiel, but it’s just too castile.
It’s [name]Cas[/name]-tee-[name]ELLE[/name] and I love it. It’s much too tied to the character however, which is too bad. Great name and amazing character. “I’m the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition.” Gah! I love [name]Cas[/name]. If it were to be used, I’d put it in the middle.
I like it. Generally speaking, I like most [name]Cas[/name] names, and I think [name]Cas[/name] is a great nn. As for the Supernatural thing, I wouldn’t worry about the connection to the character (I don’t know if that’s an issue for you or not). It’s definitely bound to be associated with the show, but I don’t why should be an issue. Of course, connections to TV shows and the like only bother me if the character is negative.
I like it! I actually know a little boy called Castiel and his older brother is just [name]Jack[/name] so it’s a little out of place but he wears it so well, and not many people make the connection to supernatural but instead compliment the name.
(PS - I do live in the UK - maybe supernatural isn’t as well known around here)
I think it’s a little too obvious and a little too fannish. There is no such angel as Castiel, the name was made up for Supernatural. So it doesn’t actual mean anything.
My opinion is probably colored by the fact that I despise him, but it just seems kind of tacky regardless, sorry.
Castiel is an absolutely amazing character. Unfortunately, his name was just made up for the show, and if you use it that will be the first thing that comes to mind for most people (like naming your child [name]Frodo[/name] or Aragorn, Cersei or Danaerys). If you’re okay with that, and with the occasional “rabid fangirl” comments, I’d say go for it, because it’s a beautiful name tied to a rich character. If you’re not okay with that, there is a “real” angel named [name]Cassiel[/name]…he’s the angel of solitude and tears, and some places list him among the seven archangels.
My husband and I love Castiel…He is one of the inspirations for one of our top boy names, [name]Caspian[/name], which will give us the nickname [name]Cas[/name].
Lol well there would be no doubt of not being a fan! lol im a superfan!! lol have all the seasons on dvd! love love love!
My partners suggested it as he did with our son baileys name… i think for mty kids names it would most defo go!
But where i live i doubt many ppl would associate it with that show… so i could be ok!
[name]Just[/name] all talks atm! not actually preg or anything yet… lol
I agree with pp’s that Castiel is very tied to the show for all aforementioned reasons.
But considering that you already have a [name]Bailey[/name] and [name]Liberty[/name], I think Castiel would sound great int he sib-set. (unless you want another -y ending). And if you are a die-hard fan and everyone knows it anyway, what does it matter if they know the name is a version of [name]Cassiel[/name] created for the show?
I am irrationally happy that I’m not the only person who loves a [name]Cas[/name] name for this reason.
I love it and I have been watching Supernatural since the beginning!
I love [name]Cass[/name] on a boy too. If [name]Caspian[/name] (as in [name]Prince[/name] [name]Caspian[/name] from Chronicles of [name]Narnia[/name]) can be used, then why not Castiel?
Lots of people name their daughters [name]Arwen[/name], and that is acceptable. There are some character names that would be strange to use, but might be okay in the middle name spot. Galdriel for example, would be a bit much as a first name.
If you named your son [name]Sam[/name] or [name]Dean[/name], nobody would really catch on that it was after a character on Supernatural. I guess people think that it is mostly tied to that one character, so it seems weird to them. I would totally use it though!
I am so happy that [name]Bailey[/name] is a boy!
I named my cat [name]Bailey[/name] after [name]Bailey[/name] [name]Salinger[/name] from Party of Five.
Well I don’t know about OP, but you all have swayed my opinion. I now have Castiel in the useable pile. swoon I’d use literary character’s names ([name]Caspian[/name]- yup, top of my list), why not Castiel? I love imagining a little [name]Cas[/name] running around my backyard. I do prefer [name]Caspian[/name] to Castiel; [name]Prince[/name] [name]Caspian[/name] was probably the first book character I fell in love with, my brother and I had many an adventure on the [name]Dawn[/name] Treader. Plus, I’m hoping my boyfriend will like [name]Caspian[/name] better than [name]Damian[/name] someday. [name]Damian[/name] is his #1 name, and while I’ve come to appreciate it, I don’t love it yet.
Yeah its till in the usable pile!! hehe! x My partner said the same abotu [name]Caspian[/name]! lol haha
I love it and maybe, just maybe, I might be brave enough to use it when I do eventually have children.
