We have had quite a rough time thinking of boy names we like. We managed to compose a list:

[name_f]My[/name_f] sister came across the name Castiel while doing research for her thesis (about angels).

We totally loved it, but after some research of our own, we found out that it is the name of a character in the tv show “Supernatural”, which we don’t watch.

Is this a bad thing? What are your thoughts about Castiel?

Any other name suggestions?

Our older girls are named [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_f]Adrienne[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] and [name_f]Portia[/name_f] [name_f]Bryony[/name_f].

I think you could use it. Supernatural is highly popular among girls and boys my age, so I think there is few who would get the connection.

Castiel’s not bad as those things go, because if he wants, he can just go by [name_m]Cas[/name_m]. But it is quite strongly linked to Supernatural, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I have a soft spot for the “super natural” names

I love the name Castiel, as I also have this on my list of boy names. Castiel isn’t just an angel on Supernatural, Castiel is a legit angel that guards over Thursdays. I love the nickname [name_m]Cas[/name_m], and I love how the name looks like the word castle. Castiel is a unique, yet sophisticated choice in my opinion.

Castiel means “my cover is god.”

At first glance, it reminded me a castile soap.

The archangel’s name is [name_m]Cassiel[/name_m], which I think sounds better

I don’t hate it, but I don’t really love it either.
With [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], and [name_f]Portia[/name_f] I’d put something slightly more familiar.

I really like this name. I think the tv show Supernatural makes it more usable as the name is more well known now.

It is closely tied to Supernatural, nowadays. But that’s not a bad thing. I love [name_m]Cas[/name_m] (on the TV show). Why not [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] (even though it’s a calculator)? Or [name_m]Casper[/name_m]? [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]?

I think Castiel is wonderful, it’s unique but not weird. I’ve recently found that my favourite boy’s names are very “normal” and I’m a little disappointed in that so I’ve been hunting for some unique options and Castiel is one that I keep coming back to!

I find [name_m]Aaron[/name_m], [name_m]Dominic[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] a little too plain for the sibset. [name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m], [name_m]Alexei[/name_m], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] and [name_m]Derek[/name_m] do not fit very well [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is my favourite boy’s name but still a little too popular for your sibset maybe…

I could certainly imagine [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Roman[/name_m] and [name_m]Victor[/name_m] with sisters named [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Portia[/name_f].

I love the name Castiel. I used to be a huge fan of the show though, so my family and friends would think I named my son after the character.

Castiel is a great character. Supernatural is a cult show, so it’s not well known at all outside the nerdy circles. Most people wouldn’t make the connection.

I think Castiel is a nice name, and if anything, the Supernatural connection has made it more familiar and usable.

Castiel is absolutely tied to Supernatural. That’s where most of us first heard of the name, and most people who want to use it are fans of the show.
