[name_m]Castiel[/name_m] is the name of a male character on the tv show Supernatural. I was wondering if you guys think it’d work for a girl? It’s an invented name, a twist on [name_m]Cassiel[/name_m], an angel. I think it’s got the same sound as [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] so it should work. What would you think if you met a girl named [name_m]Castiel[/name_m]?
I would initially think of [name_m]Castiel[/name_m] as a male name, but I would not flinch if I heard it on a girl. But I’ve never seen Supernatural and don’t know the first thing about it.
For me, it doesn’t work, because the association with Supernatural and [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] is SO strong, and I’m not sure I’d want to tell my daughter that her namesake was this very macho male angel. I actually much prefer [name_m]Cassiel[/name_m] for a girl. For a boy, though, it’s one of my favorites. You can’t get much more awesome than [name_m]Cas[/name_m]!
It’s one of my favourite boys name
but after finding out we are having a girl I was thinking if it could work as a girls name too - perhaps spelled Castielle
but hubby still prefers it as a boys name ([name_m]Cas[/name_m])
I think it will be associated with Supernatural for a good long while and thus rendered masculine.
Im thinking since its pretty unheard of now would be the time to determine if its unisex.
[name_m]Castiel[/name_m] is in the top 1000 for boys, and it is a legitimate name. It was not invented for the show. It is also a male name. If you want to use it for a girl, please consider Castielle.
Sounds very masculine to me. I can’t see anything feminine about it at all.
Is it an invented name? Or did Supernatural just made the name more popular?
Especially since [name_m]Castiel[/name_m] from Supernatural is the only link we got to the name, I don’t think it would work on a girl.
(since stealing my dvds and watching Supernatural, my brother says that one day he wants to name his son [name_m]Castiel[/name_m])
I have never seen Supernatural, so the association is lost on me. I could potentially see this name on a girl though.
I do not believe this name was invented for the show, I think it’s a legitimate name. If you like it for a girl, I would spell it Castielle, as that matches most people’s experience with [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], [name_f]Danielle[/name_f], etc
[name_m]Just[/name_m] sounds masculine to me. Sorry!
I wouldn’t give my child a name that’s so singularly tied to one reference. The show is a genre show, but it’s a popular one, and the name and reference really aren’t obscure. If the character is really important to you and you’re really set on giving a nod to him in your daughter’s name, I would use [name_m]Cas[/name_m] or [name_u]Cass[/name_u] or a name that could give you one of those as a nickname, like [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] or [name_f]Cassia[/name_f].
I think it’s great–never seen either show.
I also am unfamiliar with this show, from what I understand it’s geared towards a teen/young adult audience so I don’t think that most people will directly correlate the name with this specific character.
I actually like the name but I also prefer Castielle. It adds a lot in the way of femininity and elegance without altering the pronunciation. Castielle is quite beautiful.
I also think it’s a legitimate boy name, so I don’t think it’d work on a girl.
I think [name_m]Cassiel[/name_m] is usable for a good but [name_m]Castiel[/name_m] isn’t purely because it was invented for a male character who is, might I add, massively hot and amazing.
I second the suggestions on Castielle for a girl instead of [name_m]Castiel[/name_m]. Other similar names could be [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], [name_f]Callista[/name_f] or [name_f]Calla[/name_f].
[name_m]Way[/name_m] too masculine for my tastes especially because I would immediately think of Supernatural, I love it on a boy though.
I think it would be pretty for a girl’s name. I love Supernatural and I considered even naming my child [name_m]Castiel[/name_m] one day. You can name your child anything you want
