I am always pretty on the fence about the name [name]Bridget[/name]- sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it.
But in either state of mind, I can’t figure out what sort of name it is; which category it fits into.
Clearly [name]Bridget[/name] goes alongside other Celtic names, just like any French/Italian name sounds reasonably in harmony with another.
But which other names (other than Celtic) would you expect to see as sister/brother to a [name]Bridget[/name]?
Or, if you know a [name]Bridget[/name]- what were her siblings called?
As a child, I was friends with a [name]Bridget[/name] whose siblings were [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Andrew[/name], [name]Molly[/name], and [name]Katie[/name]. I also taught a [name]Bridget[/name] whose brother is [name]Connor[/name]. [name]Both[/name] sibsets with Celtic-related names…
I think [name]Bridget[/name] could also fit in with with some classic standards, though ([name]Caroline[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Catherine[/name]) and maybe some of the simpler, vintage crowd ([name]June[/name], [name]Cora[/name], etc.)
I’m with you–I’m perennially on the fence about [name]Bridget[/name].
I know a [name]Bridget[/name] who has an older sister, [name]Rebekka[/name] (I believe her parents used the [name]German[/name] spelling to honor their [name]German[/name] roots), a twin, [name]Sabrina[/name], and a little brother, [name]Max[/name] (not sure if it’s short for [name]Maxwell[/name]/[name]Maximilian[/name] or if it’s just [name]Max[/name]). So maybe [name]German[/name] names would go well with it? I think [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Johanna[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name] would work nice with it, and those all have [name]German[/name] roots, I think.
Ooh, ashthedreamer I totally agree with you on all those ideas.
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Sabrina[/name] is a great set, by the way! Well done parents, they go together well.
I just Facebook searched (so useful) for Bridgets, and found a [name]Bridget[/name] with a sister named [name]Polly[/name]. Unexpected, but I quite like it!
Going by your [name]German[/name] roots theory, what would you think of a [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Max[/name] and [name]Adelaide[/name] sibling set? I quite like that…
My favourite of both you posters’ suggestions:
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]June[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Johanna[/name]
I think [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Max[/name], and [name]Adelaide[/name] works really well!
I just remembered now… I knew someone on another baby name forum who loved [name]Bridget[/name]. She liked the combo [name]Bridget[/name] [name]Claire[/name], and she loved the idea of [name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Molly[/name] if she ever had twins. Because of that I automatically think of [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Molly[/name] as going well with [name]Bridget[/name]. I think all three have a lovely English/UK feel to them that makes them a nice pair. Although, if you’re from [name]England[/name], maybe [name]Claire[/name] is dated to you? I know someone in the UK who hates [name]Claire[/name] because it’s too dated for her… I mostly go off of what she tells me about UK trends, haha.
I think [name]Bridget[/name] fits with some of the vintage, classic names. My husband and I strongly considered using this name for daughter #4 and I think it would fit well with our sibset.
I also think it goes well with other Celtic/Irish names.
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Molly[/name] were a good suggestions. I think it would work well with names like [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Heidi[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Penelope[/name].
I knew a [name]Bridgette[/name] with a son named [name]Louis[/name] (pronounced [name]Lou[/name]-ee). So in my mind those names have always gone together nicely.
I can picture a [name]Bridget[/name] being sisters with another two-syllable name. Like [name]Anna[/name].
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Anabel[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Bethan[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Gemma[/name]
