How do we feel about baby name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]? Obviously it’s timeless…but is it really popular right now? I haven’t met an adult or child under 50 named that ever. And nn would be [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] to add a little spunk. I am not a fan of [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] or [name_f]Cat[/name_f]. What are your thoughts?
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f] is also top on our list for a long time.
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is on the top of my list for my first born daughter. And I personally know know 3 people with the spelling of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] with a K that are under 30 years old. I just love this name
That’s true I see it more with a K now a days
I like the nn [name_f]Kat[/name_f] for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is also becoming popular!
Catherine is lovely and I don’t hear it much these days as a first name, though it certainly falls in line with vintage and classic names that are trending. Spelled with a C is my favorite spelling.
Between Catherine and Claudia I prefer Claudia, but they’re both great!
[name_f]My[/name_f] best friend (15) is named [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], but she goes solely by [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. I think that’s it’s a very pretty name that has a lovely sound to it, though I prefer a different spelling if I were to use it ( [name_f]Katheryn[/name_f] ). Like I said, she solely goes by [name_f]Katie[/name_f], but a few of us call her Kates, and I’m the only one who calls her [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as a pet name.
Catherine/Katherine is one of my favorites. One of my best friends is called [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], she’s around 35-37.
If it wasn’t her name I would consider it for my future daughter.
I know 2 Catherines and 3 Katherines, all in their late teens or early 20s.
I love both [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is not very popular for babies right now - so maybe a good time to use it! I like [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] as a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn.
So. Many. Catherines.
I’m just not a fan of it. It’s a family name for me and I think it sounds dated. It’s also quite overused. I prefer it’s variations, like [name_f]Catarina[/name_f], [name_f]Kalena[/name_f], [name_f]Katell[/name_f], [name_f]Kateri[/name_f], [name_f]Katri[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Kitty[/name_u], and [name_u]Rynn[/name_u]. These all sound more fresh and unexpected to me. [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] is pretty. I also like [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is sweet, classic and literary. I’ve met a couple of Catherines (various spellings) that have been my age
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite names everr are [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I was able to use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but the ex hated the name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] for stupid bigoted reasons.
To be honest, the name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] had, for some reason, slipped my mind until this post, but I love it! I think I even prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] with a ‘C’ rather than a ‘K’ as it feels a bit softer. It also has so many cute nicknames- Catty being my favourite.
I think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is just one of those names that will always be there, in every generation. It’s not my cup of tea personally but it’s undeniably a timeless classic! [name_u]Kitty[/name_u] is my favourite nn for this name I think
my friend (15, nearly 16) is a catherine !!
[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin is named [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] but we call her [name_f]Cate[/name_f]. It’s a bit plan to me. I prefer [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] but [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is the best. [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] definitely has a bit more spunk, but I still don’t love it. Neither names are my style, but they’re not bad names. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not my favorite.
I’ve known a lot of people named Catherine/Katherine/Kathryn, and then even more when you combine [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], or [name_f]Kat[/name_f] in the mix. It’s not my style since, being a timeless name, it’s always been relatively common. A solid classic but nothing exciting.
Catherine/Katherine is a very popular name for all ages where I am in the southeast US. I think the nicknames are how to distinguish ages: the older ones use Cathy/Kathy and the younger ones use either Cate/Kate or Kat/Cat. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] or [name_u]Kitty[/name_u] or even [name_f]Rin[/name_f] are other nicknames I’ve seen.
I love [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]! If it wasn’t already my sister’s (17) name it would absolutely be near the top of first name list. It’s strong, classic, and there is so much history attached to it, plus lots of literary associations. It has no shortage of lovely nicknames, besides [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], to make it more unique. [name_f]My[/name_f] own favourite is [name_u]Kitty[/name_u]! I think it’s one of those names that will always be on the charts, but the most popular nickname will change between generations.
