Catherine or Elizabeth

Which do you prefer out of these two names and why? Thanks for your time

Obviously, both are classic, timeless, and lovely. I think if I had to choose I’d go with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I think its so regal and elegant and additionally, has so many adorable nicknames - [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f], [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Betsey[/name_f], and so many more.

On the other hand I love [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as well, but much prefer it with a K - [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] looks so much more elegant to me.

In my family [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the middle name of several, so I’d use [name_f]CATHRYN[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I prefer 2 syllable [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f] over 3 syllable [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Catharine[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] spellings.

I love [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is always a solid choice, but I love how soft yet strong [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] sounds. Though you definitely never need to use a nickname, I really like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]'s options: classic [name_f]Cate[/name_f], spunky [name_f]Cat[/name_f], vintage [name_u]Kit[/name_u].

I love [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]!

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - There are too many different ways to spell [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] along with too many nicknames ([name_f]Kathy[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], etc.) [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is such a classy and elegant name

Personally, I love the name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] more. That’s mostly because of a personal question but I also love the history behind the name. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Woodville, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] of [name_m]York[/name_m], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Stuart[/name_m], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] I, [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]… There are so many wonderful historical, religious and strong namesakes for a little girl to look up to. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] also has a strong history behind it [I mean, [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] of [name_m]Aragon[/name_m] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] de’Medici were pretty badass] but I prefer the [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] versions of the name.

Prefer the name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] but much prefer the nn’s for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

No surprise, I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I love that it’s classic and historical (there have been many good [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ā€œrole modelsā€), and I especially love that it had loads of different nickname options.

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is lovely, too, and that’s the spelling I prefer by far. But [name_f]Katie[/name_f] was so overdone in the 90s (so many girls named [name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f], in its many spellings) that [name_f]Katie[/name_f] has lost its appeal to me. [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] still sounds like a ā€œmom nameā€ to me, though, and I don’t like [name_f]Cat[/name_f]. [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] has some retro appeal, but I don’t know how useable it really is. These are the reasons that [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] was considered and rejected for us.

Good luck deciding!

Never liked [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], i prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] by far.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] has a more youthful feel than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?

No. Both [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] have been used steadily for hundreds of years; you’ll find girls and women of every age bearing these names.

Both are such classics and it’s a really tricky choice as both are lovely and have great nicknames but I think I would have to choose [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

For me, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a perfect name! [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is beautiful as well.

Both are lovely, but I slightly prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (though I personally prefer the [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] spelling). It seems just a tad less common to me than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], even though both have been very well used.

I have a slight preference for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (and like this spelling best).

Same with me.

Oooh, tough call! I really love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (although I prefer the [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] spelling), but I’ve found I prefer various variants of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (like [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Eliska[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabet[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Lisette[/name_f], etc.!), but I do really [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] just as it is. I think it’s so lovely and versatile, and I love the variety of nns (I’d probably use [name_f]Kaja[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Cate[/name_f], or [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but I really love the idea of [name_f]Erin[/name_f] or [name_u]Wren[/name_u], and I’ve heard of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f], too, although I find that to be more of a stretch. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I’m going team [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (although I do prefer [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]), but if [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] was either [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], that’d probably get my vote instead. :stuck_out_tongue:

[name_m]Pray[/name_m] for twins then you have [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
