We are down to a few days left before the baby arrives. We have a boy’s name but continue to struggle with a girl’s name. Our son’s name is [name]Stanton[/name] [name]Benedict[/name] both of which are family names. As for a girl, my husband is looking for a strong, unique yet traditional girl’s name. He loves either [name]Catherine[/name] (nn [name]Kit[/name], middle name [name]London[/name]) or [name]Ann[/name]/[name]Anne[/name] [name]London[/name] (we would call her this). The only name that fits that bill is [name]Ann[/name]/[name]Anne[/name] [name]London[/name]. We live in the South, so 2 first names is quite common but I still hesitate. Which name do you prefer? We welcome all suggestions! We continue to discuss this nightly!
I don’t like [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Ann[/name] with [name]Stanton[/name], simply because you’re repeating that “ann” sound in both names. I think [name]Catherine[/name] [name]London[/name] “[name]Kit[/name]” is much sweeter and a better fit
I prefer [name]Catherine[/name] with [name]Stanton[/name], the [name]Ann[/name] sound in [name]Stanton[/name] is enough that it wouldn’t be good to use it as your daughter’s name as well. If you were to shout for them, ‘[name]Stan[/name]’ and ‘[name]Ann[/name]’ sound far too alike, while ‘[name]Stan[/name]’ and ‘[name]Kit[/name]’ are better paired. I do prefer [name]Catherine[/name] as a name to [name]Ann[/name], and I don’t like [name]London[/name] at all, though maybe it’s because I’m from there I don’t see the appeal in it as a name, it’s a place to me through and through.
I absolutely love [name]Anne[/name] [name]London[/name]. However, as others have said, if you call [name]Stanton[/name] “[name]Stan[/name]” then [name]Anne[/name] and [name]Stan[/name] is too similar for my taste. [name]Catherine[/name] (spelled this way) is lovely as well. You really can’t go wrong!
I agree with you-- [name]Catherine[/name], nn [name]Kit[/name]. It’s really perfect. Strong but still feminine, and preppy in the right ways without trying too hard.
[name]Sinclair[/name] obviously started as a portmanteau of [name]Saint[/name] [name]Clair[/name], but quickly became a Jewish male name in the US.
[name]Pearson[/name] ends with son, which I don’t care for on girls unless it’s the mother’s maiden name. And you’re keeping [name]Pierce[/name] in reserve for a son.
[name]Catherine[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name]… I love it as well! My husband keeps leaning toward [name]Anne[/name] [name]London[/name] over [name]Catherine[/name] [name]London[/name] or [name]Sinclair[/name]. He feels that only [name]Anne[/name] [name]London[/name] is truly distinct like [name]Stanton[/name] is for our boy. Is he correct? I still love [name]Catherine[/name] (although much more common) and [name]Sinclair[/name] (completely uncommon for a girl’s name just like [name]Stanton[/name] is for a boy). [name]How[/name] do we compromise on names? My due date is almost here and we still are at a crossroad with names…
With a brother named [name]Stanton[/name], [name]Anne[/name] [name]London[/name] is very similar- and I don’t find it that uncommon. I love the idea of [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name]. It’s a good balance of classic and unusual. And it would age well!
I much prefer [name]Catherine[/name]. I think it’s classic and beautiful, and [name]Catherine[/name] [name]London[/name] actually has a really nice flow. [name]Kit[/name] is also a really cute nickname. [name]Anne[/name] just seems a little outdated to me.
I realy like [name]Anne[/name] [name]London[/name], but I agree with everyone that it is far too close to [name]Stanton[/name]. [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Kit[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name] is very, very cool and [name]Kit[/name] [name]London[/name] is fantastic as well. I think they’re both very bold names. [name]Sinclair[/name] would be my top choice for a first name out of the ones you’ve picked, but then you’d have to come up with a MN as well (I don’t think [name]Anne[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], or [name]London[/name] would sound right after [name]Sinclair[/name]).
