One of our short listed names is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. We like that it is classic and traditional while the nickname [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is modern. Our question is… We prefer the spelling [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] with a C. Would it be weird to spell her name with a C but to use [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as the nickname? We don’t like [name_f]Cate[/name_f] and we don’t want [name_f]Cathy[/name_f]. Or would you stick with [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]?
[name_m]Just[/name_m] seeking opinions please.
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Kate[/name_f] would be lovely! Because of the Duchess of Cambridge most everyone should be used to it by now. (Though she reportedly hates [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and always goes by [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].) [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] feels much more sophisticated than [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. But of course, your daughter may decide she likes [name_f]Cate[/name_f], [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], another nickname, or the full [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] better when she’s older, so you should be prepared for that possibility.
So true. It’s actually why were considering removing one name from our list. We like charlotte but dislike all nicknames for it and while we can insist on charlotte, she or her friends may choose a nickname down the line. Silly?
Opinions anyone?
[name_f]My[/name_f] stance is that if it’s good enough for [name_f]Kate[/name_f] Middleton, my future queen, then it’s good enough for most people
Honestly, I think [name_f]Cate[/name_f] is classier, but most people I know named [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] go by [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or a ‘K’ variation. Also, consider Catiche–an old [name_m]French[/name_m] nn for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
Good point. I’m actually a British girl living in the USA and she is one of the reasons why we are considering [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], To honor her heritage.
I don’t see a problem with using [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] with a c and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a mn with k. Its what [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] uses and it works lovely for her and it will most definitely be amazing for your little girl!
Off topic but I just have to say (as a newbie) that everyone on here is so nice and polite. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if people do not necessarily agree with the post or poster, they say so in a polite manner. Thx everyone.
