Catherine

Recently I have been loving the name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. However, I feel that although it is lovely on its own, it is a bit of a mouthful to say each time you want to get her attention. I don’t love any of the normal nicknames like [name_f]Cate[/name_f] or [name_f]Catie[/name_f]. I sort of like Ryn pronounced like the -rine at the end of the name, but that is all I have so far. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any cute nickname suggestions for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] besides the boring [name_f]Cate[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]! It’s on my own list with the nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but I think [name_f]Erin[/name_f]/[name_u]Wren[/name_u]/[name_f]Cate[/name_f] are lovely, too, and I’ve also heard [name_f]Thea[/name_f] bantered about. I don’t really see [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] “[name_f]Thea[/name_f]”, but I suppose it could work, since it has “the” and “a” in it…

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is beautiful. I think Ryn would make an adorable nickname. I like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s suggestions of [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u], also adorable. The only one that comes to mind is [name_f]Cat[/name_f].

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is on my list of middles. I love it - so many brilliant namesakes.

As for nicknames:
[name_f]Cat[/name_f]
Cath
[name_f]Cathy[/name_f] (but I suppose this one falls into the same category as [name_f]Cate[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Kat[/name_f]
[name_f]Katya[/name_f]
[name_f]Kiki[/name_f]
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]
[name_u]Ren[/name_u]
[name_u]Renny[/name_u]

a mouthful that she needs no nickname!

A total classic.

I’m a [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], nicknames I’ve had over my own lifetime are:

[name_f]Kat[/name_f]
[name_f]Katy[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathy[/name_f]
Kath
[name_f]Kat[/name_f]
Ryn
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_u]Kay[/name_u]

To be honest there are so many nickanmes for this name, but most Kathryns (or other spellings) I know go by [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f].

I do know a [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] both of whom go by their full names. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are little girls.

I know too many [name_f]Cate[/name_f], [name_f]Catie[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Katie[/name_f]'s to count (more than 10). I just mention because I think it’s likely that is what they will go by eventually (middle or high school).

I do like the nickname [name_f]Cat[/name_f].

I, a [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] myself, came up with this, some of the less common nicknames
• [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_f]Kat[/name_f] (joking one from the playground)
• [name_f]Kat[/name_f]
• [name_f]Kitty[/name_f]
• [name_f]Kiki[/name_f] (by a little boy)
• fun endings with classics
• other variations of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
• [name_f]Trina[/name_f]
• [name_f]Rina[/name_f]
• [name_f]Tina[/name_f] ( a bit of a stretch)
• any thing based of the middle name, last name, or personality
Personally, I found that I wanted to change back to the simple, yet elegant, [name_f]Katherine[/name_f].

We call my daughter [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] by her full name much of the time but we do use [name_f]Kat[/name_f] for short fairly often and when we’re being playful we’ll call her [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] and her baby brother calls her Katty with a strong emphasis on the final syllable.

Thanks everyone!

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] - I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is really cute, and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is on my guilty pleasure list, so I could see it as a nn for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is really cute, but is a bit of a stretch. [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is my #1 for girls right now, so I wouldn’t want to use it as a nn. Thanks for your suggestions!

lovemysweeties - I really like [name_f]Cat[/name_f], but I know a [name_f]Cat[/name_f] that is VERY alternative and a bit scary, so that association wouldn’t work for me unfortunately. Thanks!

shvibziks - I strongly dislike [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] but [name_u]Renny[/name_u] and [name_f]Katya[/name_f] are nth great suggestions! I am not a fan of [name_f]Kiki[/name_f], however. [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] is so cute, I could definitely envision that on a little girl! Thanks!

lesliemarion - I agree that it is a beautiful classic! It is not difficult to say either, but is a bit long. Thanks for your opinion on the no nickname because I am just loving the full name by itself right now!

sweekune - I hadn’t thought of [name_u]Kay[/name_u]! It isn’t my favorite but is definitely usable! Is [name_f]Katy[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]Katie[/name_f] or Kah-tee? Thanks!

elo - The popularity of [name_f]Cate[/name_f]/[name_f]Catie[/name_f] is what was putting me off too! If little girls go by the full [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], then maybe it isn’t so bad? Thanks!

kmdharrington - I think [name_f]Rina[/name_f] is kind of cute! Thanks!

lo - [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] is so cute. I could definitely see it on a little girl! Thank you so much, and I love your kids names! [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and [name_u]James[/name_u] are on my list! (as for your decision, I love the [name_f]Grace[/name_f]/[name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] names!!)

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is lovely and classic, sophisticated and down-to-earth at the same time. Much like the Duchess of Cambridge, a connection I personally love. Anyway- you definitely don’t need a nickname if you don’t want one. I know a [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] who’s always [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], never [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. Ryn works fine if you want a nickname though.
