Cecilia? Nicknames?

What do you think of the name [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]?
What do you think of these nicknames?
Cece/Cici: the most popular nickname, and I think it’s super sweet and affectionate, but I don’t love it (But it’s really growing on me!) I’m also a bit worried about how it would age?
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]: I really like this nickname, it’s pretty and sweet. But my parents keep saying it reminds them too much of the cilia bacteria, so I probably wouldn’t use it.
[name_f]Cilla[/name_f]: This is a cute nickname for [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] (still too close to the bacteria), but it’s not my favorite and reminds me too much of [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lia[/name_f]: This wouldn’t work because I have other names on my list with a -lia ending

Any suggestions?
What sibling names match with it?
:cherry_blossom: :bouquet:

Ι’m a [name_f]Celia[/name_f], never even heard of “cilia bacteria” in my life :woman_shrugging: It’s never been brought up to me or been mentioned anywhere I’d see it

[name_f]My[/name_f] mum’s nicknames for me are usually [name_f]Lili[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilou[/name_f]. For [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] you could also do Ceci (seh-see instead of see-see like [name_f]Cece[/name_f], I think it sounds a bit less cutesy and childlike?)

I like the name!

  1. I love the name [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]! I can never decide between the [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] spellings, though. I think it’s a lovely name – elegant but down-to-earth, and familiar but still unexpected.

  2. [name_f]Cece[/name_f] is my favorite! For some reason I love [name_f]Cece[/name_f] but don’t really like the [name_f]Cici[/name_f] spelling. I think it’s sweet and fun. I agree it feels a little childish, but I know a young adult with the name and it works on her! She could also always start going by [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] or 3. [name_f]Celia[/name_f] as an adult if she felt [name_f]Cece[/name_f] was too childish for her.
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] is my other favorite nickname - I think it’s really pretty and nice. I have never associated it with cilia bacteria, which I’m not sure I’ve heard of – my hazy memory from high school biology is that cilia were the little hair-like thingies on a cell that help it move? Either way, I can’t imagine most people would connect a well-established name like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] to cilia unless they were biologists or science teachers who frequently talk about cilia :joy:
[name_f]My[/name_f] only other nickname ideas would be [name_f]Celie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lele[/name_f].

  3. Sibling name ideas:
    Sisters: [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], [name_f]Vivian[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Ruby[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Carmen[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Harper[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
    Brothers: [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], [name_m]Francis[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Everett[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Dorian[/name_m], [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_m]David[/name_m]

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is very pretty, though I tend to prefer [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite nicknames from your list are definitely [name_f]Celia[/name_f] & [name_f]Cece[/name_f] – if you’re worried that it won’t age well maybe go with [name_f]Cece[/name_f] as a child and change it to [name_f]Celia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lia[/name_f] when she’s older?
[name_f]My[/name_f] suggestions would be Cee (the nickname used for [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] in [name_m]Ian[/name_m] McEwan’s Atonement) or [name_f]Celie[/name_f]! Siblings could be [name_f]Marietta[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], or [name_m]Caspian[/name_m].

I’m glad to hear that! I’d never heard of it either, but my parents are in the medical field.
I really like [name_f]Lili[/name_f]! How would you pronunce that? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] could work as a nickname for [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]?

[name_f]My[/name_f] mum says it the same as [name_f]Lily[/name_f]! I think it works regardless of spelling (:

Thank you! I agree, I’ve never heard anyone else say that [name_f]Celia[/name_f] reminds them of the bacteria.
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], Beatrix/Beatrice, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Louis[/name_m], and [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] are all on my list. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], [name_m]Francis[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], and [name_m]David[/name_m] are on my middle name list. I also love [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_f]Ruby[/name_f], [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], and [name_f]Diana[/name_f]!

I love the name [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. It’s one of my favorite names, she just makes me happy. I even find beauty in the meaning (which most don’t like)… I have known several Cecilias but I would love to meet more. It’s such a beautiful name and maybe an underrated classic? I feel like she is always rarer than I expect but also more consistently used than I would expect too. I used to think it was the rarest, most lovely name when I grew up with one… so much less trendy than my own name haha!

I love the nn Cici/Cece! She’s sweet and happy and feels creative and kind. The Cecilias I know still go by [name_f]Cece[/name_f] today, and they are in their 30s. Seeing it on [name_m]Zooey[/name_m] Deschanel’s show, too (my mind is blanking lol, the show about [name_m]Jess[/name_m] and the like 3-4 male roommates, the grumpy bartender who became her love interest…) also helped it feel very versatile to me.

[name_f]Celia[/name_f] - Ironically never really loved this, but it is nice. One of the Cecilias I know goes by [name_f]Cece[/name_f] and [name_f]Celia[/name_f] pretty much equally.

[name_f]Cilla[/name_f] - feels more of a nn for [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] to me, but it’s fine. I just don’t love it.

I don’t know that I’d ever use anything but Cece/Cici tbh, I love it so much (Cici is a nn for like 3-4 names on my short list because of this lol), but if I had to use something else, I really like [name_f]Cissy[/name_f] (like Sissy) or [name_f]Celie[/name_f] (like SEE-lee). [name_m]Read[/name_m] a novella once with a [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cissy[/name_f] and I thought it was fun even though it sounds a bit childish. Cessy (sess-ee vs. siss-ee) could also maybe work. I could also see something like Lily/Lili as a nn or maybe a compound nn with a middle.

I feel like these would work really well with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]:

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Jude[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]August[/name_m]
[name_m]Lionel[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]

Good luck!

Thank you! [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and Beatrice/Beatrix are on my list and I love [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]!
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] are also on my list and I love [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Jude[/name_m], and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] as well!

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is elegant and pretty, but also has a bubbly and bright feel about it.

[name_f]Cece[/name_f] → it’s sweet and stylish. The thing with nicknames is that they can age with someone, be left behind if it doesn’t suit them as they grow, or just used ‘at home’ among those close to them! I can easily imagine an adult [name_f]Cece[/name_f]

[name_f]Celia[/name_f] → bright and airy, and I personally wouldn’t think of the bacteria, but maybe it wouldn’t work in your family?

[name_f]Cilla[/name_f] → sharp but sweet, but again, it doesn’t seem right for you

[name_f]Lia[/name_f] → it works - and even if you’ve got multiple names ending in [name_f]Lia[/name_f], if you have other nicknames for those, [name_f]Lia[/name_f] could work for this? So just as an example, say you’ve got [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] on your list, but like [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], and [name_m]Jules[/name_m], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] could be [name_f]Lia[/name_f]?
It’s pretty cute and versatile, but again, maybe it’s not speaking to you

As nicknames, I’d consider [name_f]Celie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (LEE-luh), or maybe [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] with an O middle (I’d use [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] Opal)

As siblings:

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aveline[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]

For both Cecilia and Celia, I think of Celiac  and is probably partly why I could never get into them

I think Cece/Cici is fine and then she can go by her full name or something else when she gets older. I personally couldn’t use it bc some family members use it to mean something not pleasant so it’s ruined for me  but I don’t think I’ve heard others use it that way so shouldn’t be a problem for others

I like Maya’s idea of using Lili, Lilia, and Lilou. Lisa is another stretchy idea. I’ve also thought of Cili or Celi especially if she’s being silly

I know it’s been a while, but would you mind explaining how you find beauty in the meaning? I don’t hate it, but it’s not the best meaning either, so I’m curious on what you think.

Oh, of course! [name_f][/name_f] I don’t mind sharing at all. [name_f][/name_f] There’s two main reasons:

[name_f][/name_f]
    [name_f][/name_f]
  1. [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] loved and sought out the blind. [name_f][/name_f] He loved them. [name_f][/name_f] He healed them. [name_f][/name_f] He attacked the stigma that they were blind because of sin. [name_f][/name_f] He restored them and made them whole. [name_f][/name_f] I can’t really find any stigma in something [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] removed the stigma from.
  2. [name_f][/name_f]
  3. I also love the idea of having blindness toward prejudice, hatred, and evil. [name_f][/name_f] Not in a way that I pretend it doesn’t exist, but in a way that I don’t let the ugliness of it impact me and fill me with ugliness too.
  4. [name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

Some of my favorite characters in films and shows have some kind of handicap and they are so amazing in so many ways. [name_f][/name_f] I hate the stigma that blindness or deafness is something awful. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] loved them, I love them too. [name_f][/name_f] I think anyone [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] loves is beautiful, so I just can’t see anything ugly in the meaning “blind” myself, but I know it is a hang up for a lot of people!
