Cecilia ☀

I’ve loved [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] for a long time! She’s so sunny and happy and lovely. I also love that she works in Spanish and offers the super cute nickname [name_f]Cece[/name_f]. The meaning though, is not so lovely! :face_with_peeking_eye:

I’ve heard a lot of mixed feedback! What are your thoughts? What do you imagine a [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] would be like - how do you envision her? Does the meaning put you off too much?

And do you prefer [name_f]Celia[/name_f]? I can’t make my mind up!!

Thank you for your feedback, everyone!

I think I like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] a bit more since I usually just like shorter names, but [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is awesome too! The meaning doesn’t put me off at all, I am not really into name meanings though  [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is a super girly princess name too me, very similar vibes to [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]!

I think [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is great if you’re shooting for classy, vintage but still fresh and vivacious!

I know what you mean about [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] - the name does have a bright, sunny sound! :sun_with_face: I also like that St. [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is the patron saint of music.

However, the meaning is definitely a drawback for me. (Of course, the average person out there who doesn’t delve into name-meanings would probably never connect [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] with its Latin root… but once you find out, it’s difficult to un-know!)

Having said all that: I definitely prefer [name_f]Celia[/name_f], which I think is such a lovely, sleek, understated classic! It has a great Shakespearean connection, and also reminds me of 1940s actress [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m]. Very elegant name!

I love [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]! I go back and forth sometimes between the [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] spellings (though I know they’d be pronounced differently in Spanish) but overall I love the name. The meaning doesn’t bother me personally – my own name has a less-than-ideal meaning and it’s never bothered me, so it doesn’t bother me for potential future choices, either.

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] feels summery, bright, and warm to me. It’s fun and has an artsy, musical vibe. I imagine a [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] to be creative, kind, and energetic, though I also think it could fit any personality type.

I like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] too but prefer Cecilia/Cecelia. I also think you get the best of both worlds because you could always use [name_f]Celia[/name_f] as a nickname [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is a really pretty name! I can’t help but picture a Catholic schoolgirl though, which is not a bad association, but it makes me think she’d be quiet and tight-laced. However, I’m sure that’s not actually an accurate picture of many girls who go to Catholic schools, just what my brain goes to because of pop culture references :woman_shrugging:

You may want to consider [name_f]Celia[/name_f] if you want a better meaning. When it’s just [name_f]Celia[/name_f], it’s actually derived from a different [name_m]Roman[/name_m] name, so it means “heaven” instead, a much better meaning. I think [name_f]Celia[/name_f] totally works as a name on its own (think [name_f]Celia[/name_f] Cruz).

I prefer [name_f]Celia[/name_f] but only a little bit, I really like both! [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is a mix of classy/elegant and cottagecore vibes to me! I imagine a [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] as an ambiverted, sweet and smart girl, but it’s a versatile name and could work with many different personalities!
The meaning doesn’t put me off too much.

I love [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] & [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]! I don’t very much like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] because the sound completely changes in Spanish, and it’s a bit heavier compared to what I usually like.

As for Cecilia’s meaning, I wouldn’t put much thought into it if I was truly considering it! This is my cousin’s name, and one of closest friend’s middle name. One is bubbly, outgoing, & sunny, and the other sweet, classy, and kind! That’s what [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] makes me think of. :purple_heart:

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is very pretty!

She has a sweet delicate sound feels happy and wholesome. I envision pastel pinks, antique lace, sunny spring days and sipping sweet tea in pretty china cups. I think [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is beautiful. I prefer [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] the prolonged sound of the name has a more melodic sound to my ears very sweet.

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is lovely - bright, bouncy, elegant and beautiful. I can imagine someone refined and confident, but also someone fun and energetic?

I’m not that bothered by the meaning - I tend to see a good meaning as a plus, rather than the reason why I like or dislike a name? I find the meanings interesting rather than the reason they are or aren’t on my list?
I guess you have to decide how important a good meaning is to you - or if you can find a way to reconcile yourself to it? Like maybe by focusing on the fact it’s the name of the saint of music; that being blind isn’t inherently a bad thing; that it might mean ‘leader of the blind’, obscure, mysterious, dark, hidden etc.; that it could go with a middle with an appealing meaning to you?

[name_f]Celia[/name_f] is gorgeous too - it does have the better meaning, but also the sparky feel of [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]

It used to be pretty high on my list ~10 years ago before I starting generally moving away from the softer S, L, and -a sounds. Recently its been back on my radar and slowly sneaking back onto my list and I definitely still love it for other people. I don’t get sunny imagery, to me its very snowy, purple, mature and elegant. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister said it was like molasses, warm with sweet undertones but solidly calm, dark, and wintery vibes. [name_f]Cece[/name_f] is very cute and does pull the vibe more youthful and fun. I don’t care at all about the meaning. I think I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] slightly more than [name_f]Celia[/name_f] but both are nice and [name_f]Celia[/name_f] does have a slightly warmer vibe to me.

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] here!! I love my name :two_hearts: my family and friends call me [name_f]Celia[/name_f] & I am in fact Catholic so I suppose I’m the stereotype. The only thing I mind is that my name is usually in horror movies if anything. For reference I’m 16 and a sophomore in high school, I know two other girls who have the same name as me but both are older than me.

I like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] as a nn to [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], but I don’t like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] by itself, so my vote goes to [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] out of the two.
