[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering, how do you pronounce [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]? I always thought it was something like SESS-ill-ee, but I’ve also heard it pronounced sess-EEL-ee, which I don’t like as much. Which is correct?
I’ve only heard the first pronunciation used so far, I don’t know for sure if that is the correct one though.
I’ve never heard anything other than ‘SESS-il-ee’.
The second isn’t familiar and I don’t like how it sounds. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is a beautiful name.
I agree, but I also found this clip that uses the second pronunciation (with a long ‘i’, like in meal or deal) : Pronounce Names - How to Pronounce Cecily - YouTube
Regardless, I prefer the second pronunciation, and most seem to agree it’s correct, so that’s what I’ll do
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is pronounced /Ses il ee/or
slightly differently, a clipped British Received Pronounciation tends more to /Sis il ee/
Best Wishes.
That would be [name_f]Cicely[/name_f].
To be honest, I think that’s just someone saying [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] wrong. She even describes it written down as the ‘e’ in pet which is definitely not the ‘e’ noise in deal or meal, not in anyone’s accent.
I’ve only heard it being pronounced “Sess-ily” (the first one). I think that’s the accepted way to say it. I’ve seen characters on multiple TV shows pronounce it that way.
Beautiful name. I love both it and the similar [name_f]Celeste[/name_f].
I pronounce it SESS-ill-ee (comes out more like SISS-ill-ee though).
I don’t know if this is correct, but I pronounce it Sis-uh-lee not sess-ill-ee. I think with a name this uncommon, however you pronounce it will be the way people remember it.
