Cecily

How do you feel about this name? I worry about possible pronunciation issues.

I love it! It’s my favorite girl name of all time, and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is wonderful! I would expect pronunciations similar to [name_f]Sicily[/name_f] on occasion (especially in my area, where many have a pin-pen merger), but you would have to decide if that’s a dealbreaker.

I really like [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - it’s very distinct without being unfamiliar, has cute nicknames, and I like the sounds in the name - it’s really fun to say! [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] works well! I don’t really think [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] would be plagued by mispronunciation issues. Maybe every once in a while, sure, but my name is [name_m]Bryan[/name_m] and it gets mispronounced every once in a while too :man_shrugging:t2:

I adore [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]! I don’t think most people will mispronounce, but every name is bound to get mispronounced. I have a teacher who cannot say [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] correctly, and you’d think that was pretty straightforward. (:

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is beautiful, and I love it with your sibset! It’s my favorite option of the ones you’ve considered, by far!

[name_f]My[/name_f] one big concern - all of my kids names fall within the top #1000 (for the US SSA list of names). And [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] isn’t even in the top 1000! I didn’t realize this. Does this make a huge difference?

I don’t think so. I think we will see it creeping up in upcoming years, as it has a really lovely sound to it and I’ve been seeing it recognized more and more. It was a top contender for me at the beginning of this pregnancy, but we’re leaning towards another name now.

I also think, that while it’s not in the top 1000, it’s very familiar. In that way it’s a perfect name.

Cecily is pretty - light, sweet and bubbly!

I think it’s similar enough to Cecilia/Celia that it doesn’t feel super unknown

I really appreciate your comments! They’re always so helpful

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f]!

I think it’s lovely, and I don’t see what it would be mispronounced as. I’d probably prefer [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Diane[/name_f], but [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is decent.

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, and I don’t think there are any pronunciation issues, except, as someone’s already mentioned, in certain areas of the US where there’s the pin/pen switch. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is classic and perfect.

[name_f]Gorgeous[/name_f] combo

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it  I think it’s the only name where I could get over an unappealing meaning (meanings are important to me) to use it as I just think it’s so lovely. I wouldn’t foresee many pronunciation issues at all, it’s very straightforward, phonetic and familiar to most. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is gorgeous.

I will say the meaning is a bummer!

It is and I think I’d worry that my daughter would be the type that loves researching such things (as I was and still am!) and would be disappointed by the meaning too when the overwhelming majority of names have appealing meanings you’d be pleased to discover. Which is why I’d personally probably pair it with something like [name_f]Hope[/name_f] which I also happen to love to make the meaning something positive. Bit cheesey perhaps, but would mitigate this particular drawback for me. But it is a gorgeous name and all-round combo (I know [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is immovable for you and I think it’s beautiful).

I always love seeing [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] used! I think it’s gorgeous. I don’t think the popularity discrepancy will raise any eyebrows. Maybe if it was only [name_u]Liam[/name_u] and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] it would raise some name-nerd brows, but with your other girls I would hardly give it a second thought as I think the styles match very well.

For me personally, the meaning is a bit off-putting, but it’s on my list anyway and would be a contender if my husband liked it. He doesn’t mispronounce it so much as say it’s too similar to [name_f]Sicily[/name_f].

I like it fine.
