[name_f]Baby[/name_f] number 2 is… a boy! Our son is R0bin and we are torn between [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] or [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. We are in Australia.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] would probably be shortened to [name_m]Des[/name_m] or Dezzy. [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] would be [name_m]Ced[/name_m], ceddy, or [name_m]Ricky[/name_m]. But we would likely just call him by his full name like with R0bin.
[name_f]My[/name_f] vote goes to [name_m]Cedric[/name_m]! I love its distinguished sound, charismatic energy and friendly vibe. I really like the idea of [name_m]Ced[/name_m]. Dric and Cid could also be cool nicknames for [name_m]Cedric[/name_m]. [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cedric[/name_m] and R0bin sound amazing together!
I think [name_m]Robin[/name_m] and [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] are both genteel and for me, go better together in a timeless and sophisticated way.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Cedric[/name_m] has more regal/ friar/gothic/ [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] vibes and with [name_m]Robin[/name_m] is possibly too self-conscious and stylised for my taste (ie feels a bit more in to fantasy/Batman realm for me). But they feel adventurous together.
[name_f][/name_f]
But I also think [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] has a lot of pluckish charm. So you can either go gentle (dignified and nerdy) [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] or more stylised and fun [name_m]Cedric[/name_m]?
Congratulations! What fun, two little brothers. [name_f][/name_f]I think [name_m]Robin[/name_m] and [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] were literally made for each other.
I’m intrigued that most of the support is going [name_f][/name_f] Cedric’s way. I thought it would be more evenly split since they’re fairly similar in style and usage.
[name_f][/name_f]
I prefer [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] myself, but both are handsome choices. I see them both as gentlemanly names. [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] skews a little clunky while [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] is a little more grand or noble.
[name_f][/name_f]
I’m Australian too. So far I’ve only known one primary aged [name_m]Cedric[/name_m], and the same for [name_m]Robin[/name_m]. Never met a [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. I asked my husband for his thoughts – he was neutral on [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] and mentioned [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and disliked [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] but couldn’t say why.
[name_f][/name_f]
I wonder if it comes down to sounds. [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] feels a lot more open and rolls off the tongue, whereas [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is more closed and consonant heavy. Interestingly, [name_m]Ced[/name_m] and [name_m]Des[/name_m] are almost the same sounds reversed.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have other preferences you could use to compare them? You might also find one name naturally rises to the top by the time your baby arrives.
[name_m]Cedric[/name_m] is soo handsome. [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is still a bit fusty for me I’m afraid. I could probably have my mind changed if I met a little boy with the name though.
