I’m intrigued that most of the support is going [name_f][/name_f] Cedric’s way. I thought it would be more evenly split since they’re fairly similar in style and usage.
[name_f][/name_f]I prefer [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] myself, but both are handsome choices. I see them both as gentlemanly names. [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] skews a little clunky while [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] is a little more grand or noble.
[name_f][/name_f]I’m Australian too. So far I’ve only known one primary aged [name_m]Cedric[/name_m], and the same for [name_m]Robin[/name_m]. Never met a [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. I asked my husband for his thoughts – he was neutral on [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] and mentioned [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and disliked [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] but couldn’t say why.
[name_f][/name_f]I wonder if it comes down to sounds. [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] feels a lot more open and rolls off the tongue, whereas [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is more closed and consonant heavy. Interestingly, [name_m]Ced[/name_m] and [name_m]Des[/name_m] are almost the same sounds reversed.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Do[/name_f] you have other preferences you could use to compare them? You might also find one name naturally rises to the top by the time your baby arrives.
