Celia or Cecelia?

I’m wondering which you berries prefer.

I love both, but I’m conflicted as to which is my favorite.

I love [name]Celia[/name] because it’s sweet and simple, and the meaning of “heavenly” is absolutely gorgeous. But [name]Celia[/name] does sound a little more Latin, and a few people that I’ve talked to say they only picture [name]Celia[/name] on someone Hispanic/Latino.

I adore [name]Cecelia[/name]/[name]Cecilia[/name] for it’s vintage charm and prim-and-proper princess style. It also feels a little more substantial as a name to me. However, the meaning of “blind” attatched to the name is not appealing to me.

Which do you prefer and why?

Also, which spelling: [name]Cecilia[/name] or [name]Cecelia[/name]?

I like the spelling [name]Cecilia[/name] a lot more and the meaning never bothered me. [name]Celia[/name] is pretty and short but it seems too much like a nickname to me. It would be a perfect nickname for [name]Cecilia[/name]. That way she could have the full name, but still use the shorter name if she wanted to.

I prefer [name]Cecilia[/name], with that spelling overall, but from your choices, I side with [name]Cecelia[/name]. There’s something about the name that’s more delicate and classic to me than [name]Celia[/name]. I think that extra syllable gives it a lacy, dainty feel to it that [name]Celia[/name] lacks. Overall, I just feel like [name]Celia[/name] is a more modern and nicknamey while [name]Cecelia[/name] is classic and substantial.

The meaning is… knida bothered me. I actually love [name]Cecelia[/name]/[name]Cecilia[/name] more, because it sounds vintage, pretty and princessy, while I adore [name]Celia[/name] mostly because of its meaning.
Agree with anyone, [name]Cecelia[/name] with [name]Celia[/name] as the nickname.

I suppose because I live in Europe there’s a different vibe around these names than there is in [name]America[/name].
[name]Both[/name] [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Cecilia[/name] have been very popular amongst the upper classes in [name]Britain[/name].
I prefer [name]Celia[/name],because of the meaning. But [name]Celia[/name] also seems to the natural nickname for [name]Cecilia[/name] in the UK,so if it’s the same in the US,you could have both names to play with if you went with [name]Cecilia[/name].

Thanks so much everyone!

I do agree that with [name]Cecilia[/name], the obvious nickname is [name]Celia[/name], which would be the best of both worlds. It’s really just the meaning that’s holding me back.

I’d love to hear more of your opinions :)!

I actually prefer the simplicity of [name]Celia[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are nice, but [name]Celia[/name] is gorgeous on its own.

On the spelling, I prefer [name]Cecelia[/name] if you plan on using the nn [name]Celia[/name].

I prefer [name]Celia[/name], simply because [name]Cecelia[/name] is too frilly for me.

I prefer [name]Celia[/name]. It’s simpler. [name]Cecelia[/name] is nice too, but it seems a bit pretentious to me. It’s a bit too much, in my opinion. So I pick [name]Celia[/name].

Wow, everyone is sort of split down the middle! Half prefer [name]Cecilia[/name] and the other half prefer [name]Celia[/name].
Please keep posting your opinions :)!

I prefer [name]Celia[/name] for two reasons. First, the meaning is so much better than for [name]Cecelia[/name]. Second, [name]Cecelia[/name] always gets shortened to Cece, and I really don’t care for nicknames. However, both names are beautiful! I begged my husband to use [name]Celia[/name] for my little girl, but he could not be convinced :frowning:

I slightly prefer [name]Celia[/name] because of its sound and meaning, but I really like both.

I prefer [name]Cecelia[/name] in sound (plus it’s a friend’s name). Hate the meaning though. [name]Celia[/name] is ok but it makes me think of the show Weeds. Her character wasn’t the most charming to say the least.

I like [name]Celia[/name]. It’s shorter and simpler and no need for a nickname.

I love [name]Cecilia[/name] yet I hate [name]Celia[/name]. [name]Celia[/name] just sounds like a disease or something very negative while [name]Cecilia[/name] sounds so melodic and beautiful. I know that sounds weird and I really cannot explain it, but that is they way I think of it. If you like [name]Celia[/name] though, I would use [name]Cecilia[/name]/[name]Cecelia[/name] as the full name and [name]Celia[/name] as the NN that way you can have both

[name]Celia[/name] sounds more appealing to me. The simplicity and the softness make it sound very sweet and old fashioned. I like [name]Cecilia[/name] too though, just prefer [name]Celia[/name].

I don’t know which one I love more, its so hard to choose one. [name]Both[/name] are favourites!
[name]Cecelia[/name] is beautiful & I love its vintage-charm & if you use the nickname [name]Celia[/name] which is very elegant then you get the best of both worlds. I actually prefer this nickname to short & snappy Cece. [name]Even[/name] though I adore this name I can’t use it because of my nieces name. Moving on I hate the meaning of [name]Cecelia[/name] whilst I love the meaning of [name]Celia[/name].
