Chambray : Yay or Nay?

What do you guys think of [name_f]Chambray[/name_f]? @VEL brought it to my attention on my previous post and I’ve never considered it before. I think I’d probably put it with [name_u]Kendall[/name_u] or [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. TIA!

Personally not a fan. All I think of is the fabric, which isn’t an association I’d want with a name

It would be a lovely name if I didn’t immediately think of the fabric :see_no_evil:

I don’t personally know of the fabric, but I’m not a fan of how the pronunciation is unclear. I don’t know if the Cha- is pronounced like in Charlie, like Kam-bray or like Sham-bray. I’m guessing it’s the latter? In which case I also don’t love how the go-to nickname would be pronounced like Sham

I don’t know of the fabric. It makes me think of the word chamber, plus chamber pot because of that. I’m not a fan of it

^ this!!

I also don’t know the fabric, so I am confused about the pronunciation. It seems name-y enough to work, but again, I don’t have any associations with it

Hmm… interesting concept! However, it does make me think of the fabric, and the place in [name_u]France[/name_u] too. (It also sounds reminiscent of a type of wine, for some reason… champagne + chardonnay, maybe?)

Nah, to me this is not a name.

I don’t know if fabrics have entered the general naming lexicon yet, but if you like it I don’t see why not. I could imagine people being into fabrics like [name_f]Silk[/name_f] or [name_u]Denim[/name_u] as names at some point in the future so why not [name_f]Chambray[/name_f]?
