"Change" my name at age 30?

My name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], and I’m pretty “meh” about that. Being a name nerd, [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is kind of a let-down name. I’ve always loved my middle name, [name_f]Fawn[/name_f], and decided a few years ago that I would love to go by that instead. It seems to fit my personality better; (I have dreadlocks, do yoga, knit, etc.) I have recently moved and will be starting a new job in a few weeks. It has occurred to me that I could request to go by [name_f]Fawn[/name_f] and no one would think it was weird, since no one knows me.

Thoughts? Is it just too weird? It seemed weird to me. [name_f]Honesty[/name_f] appreciated!

I don’t think it’s weird at all

I think it’s completely fine. I had a friend who began going by her middle name when she started college. The one thing I may caution you about would be forcing existing friends who currently know you as [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] to begin only calling you [name_f]Fawn[/name_f]. Good luck with your new endeavors!

Thanks all!

I think a move and a new job is the perfect time to start going by a new name.

I love it. [name_f]Fawn[/name_f] really seems to fit you! Plus, its not as if you’re plucking a random name out of thin air to use. Moving and meeting new people is the perfect opportunity!
