Changing nicknames

What happens when a child changes his/her nickname? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you call them by their new nickname? I have a 2 year old and her name has a lot of nickname possibilities  Was just wondering if the family can still get used to a nickname she wants to give herself

We thought we’d call my daughter [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as a nickname and referred to her as that often when pregnant. When she was born my husband and I never felt right calling her [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. Other people called her [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and we didn’t mind as it’s a great name. But at a year and a half she decided she wanted to go by [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]. So we call her that. And without making a big deal of it, people have just naturally followed suit. She’s 3.5 now and some people still call her [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but the vast majority call her [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], just like we do.
I’d just call your kid what she prefers and until she starts voicing that she dislikes other names, just let others call her what they want. She may change her mind again. (Which is why I’ve never made a big deal of other people calling my daughter [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]. Maybe next month she will want to be [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] or [name_m]Luc[/name_m]. I don’t want her to think I prefer [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] because she hears me telling people to call her that over [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. She corrects people sometimes and I’m fine with that.)
