Character Nickname Question

I have a character named Kaeli (prn the same as [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], I just didn’t think that spelling was right for the character). Kaeli’s sisters all call her [name_m]Kale[/name_m] (prn like the vegetable). I spelled the nickname [name_m]Kale[/name_m] because that’s how I wanted it pronounced, but I realized that it might make more sense to spell it [name_m]Kael[/name_m], because that’s the first four letters of her name?

So, if you saw [name_m]Kael[/name_m] written down, would you pronounce it “[name_m]Kale[/name_m]” if you knew her full name was Kaeli, or would it be better for me to keep it [name_m]Kale[/name_m]? Thanks!

With [name_m]Kael[/name_m], my first thought was [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-l (like [name_m]Kale[/name_m] the vegetable), especially as a nickname for Kaeli. My second guess would be Ka-el. I think either works, but I would stick with [name_m]Kale[/name_m].

I know a girl called [name_f]Kaela[/name_f] (pron. [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-la) and she writes her nickname as [name_m]Kale[/name_m], so I think it works just find for Kaeli too.
