Charles/Charlie or James?

Hello once again, nameberries. Good thing I’m not pregnant soon, because I cannot seem to decide on one name.

Charlie has been a long-running favourite of mine. I don’t love Charles, however I would rather that be my son’s name so he has the option of going as Charles if he becomes, say, a doctor. That way, he still has the option of going by Charlie. I don’t mind Charles, however I would call him Charlie 24/7 unless he disliked it.

My other favourite name is James. I’d probably nickname him Jamie every once in a while, but overall I’d call him James. I don’t dislike the meaning, but I do like the name of Charlie better. (Charlie means “freedom” or “free man,” whereas James mean “supplanter.”) I also can see the name James on any age - baby, teenager, adult.

Which one is your favourite, and why? Any other names you might have that fit the style/vibe of Charlie/James? Sidenote, the middle name for both would be Alexander.

  • James Alexander
  • Charlie Alexander
  • I like Alexander better as a FN!

I have to say [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] because it’s my godfathers name

I didn’t vote for any option in the poll, as I think the best option is [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]!

I prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m] over [name_m]James[/name_m], and don’t really like the flow of [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] so much. And I love that you would give him the option to go by [name_m]Charles[/name_m] if he prefers, that shows more consideration and foresight than lots of parents I know :yellow_heart:
