Which spelling do you prefer for a boy? Is [name]Charlie[/name] or [name]Charley[/name] more masculine?
I have never seen the [name]Charley[/name] spelling and I really dislike it. [name]Charlie[/name] is more masculine and traditional.
Thank you for your reply. It’s funny, even though I know [name]Charlie[/name] is the traditional spelling, [name]Charley[/name] seems more masculine to me!
I like both! I really can’t decide which I like more. But they both seem very masculine, [name]Charley[/name] perhaps more so, as [name]Charlie[/name] is common on girls now
I love both! I have to agree with charlieandperry1 about this, though.
[name]Charley[/name] looks crazy to me. Like spelling [name]Henry[/name] --> Henrie
I’d go with [name]Charlie[/name].
[name]Charlie[/name] = boy
[name]Charley[/name] = used for girls now
Yeah this is how I’ve always imagined it.
I’m with @mischa. While [name]Charlie[/name] is also used for girls, I see all the other possible (mostly bad, imo) spellings ([name]Charlee[/name], [name]Charley[/name], [name]Charleigh[/name], [name]Charlea[/name], etc.) as people’s attempt to feminize [name]Charlie[/name]. For a boy, I would definitely opt for [name]Charlie[/name].
This sort of reminds me of a family I know with a little boy named [name]Rylee[/name]–they used that spelling to try and make it clear that their [name]Riley[/name] was a boy, but the [name]Rylee[/name] spelling is used so much more often for girls now. I would play it safe and go for [name]Charlie[/name] (actually, I would be even more safe and go with [name]Charles[/name], nn [name]Charlie[/name], personally, haha).
I would use [name]Charles[/name] with Chalie/ [name]Charley[/name] as a nickname. It seems that no matter which way I spell it, it could be mistaken as a girl! Thank you for all the opinions!
[name]Charlie[/name] sounds more masculine! super cute name!
[name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name]
