Charlie - Just Charlie?

My DH and I really love [name]Charlie[/name] but I don’t like [name]Charles[/name] at all. I find it quite formal and stuffy and it just isn’t my style. However, we keep coming back to just [name]Charlie[/name]. It goes against one of my most important rules (no nicknames as given names), but I’m wondering, just how bad is just [name]Charlie[/name]? Too nicknamey/childish or acceptable?

Any insight would be appreciated, thank you!

I know three little boys just [name]Charlie[/name]. I don’t think there is a problem with that at all.

Darling, you’re in [name]England[/name]! There will be thousands of little Charlies walking around, no one will think it’s too childish.

Oh my goodness, I love just [name]Charlie[/name]. I have started liking [name]Charles[/name], but [name]Charlie[/name] by itself is fantastic!

I love [name]Charlie[/name] as well. There’s nothing wrong with using it on its own.

I’ll be the first to say I think it’s too much of an automatic nickname to be the actual name itself.

While I’ve never liked [name]Charles[/name], I love [name]Charlie[/name]. I think it’s fine on its own.

I prefer [name]Charlie[/name] as a nickname to [name]Charles[/name] rather than on its own.

Never liked [name]Charles[/name] either, always loved [name]Charlie[/name] though! And I’ve started to find the nickname [name]Chuck[/name] endearing. You’ve got nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the feedback so far. [name]How[/name] does [name]Charlie[/name] [name]Beau[/name] sound?

My vote is for [name]Charles[/name] as the fn, even if [name]Charlie[/name] is used most often.

Too kiddie for my tastes. [name]Just[/name] because you like [name]Charlie[/name] doesn’t mean he will. I know a [name]Willie[/name] who tells people his name is [name]William[/name]. It was fine when he was a kid but as an adult he doesn’t like having such a childish name.

I’d still put [name]Charles[/name] on the birth certificate. I really don’t like nickname names! A friend of mine has a daughter named [name]Charli[/name] (which I really dislike, but don’t tell her that!).
