Hey Berries! Any ideas for names that are like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but not as popular? Go!
By “like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]” I assume you mean vintage-y, classic names. I like those names too. They are very “en vogue” right now so it’s hard to find a good name because every time you do, it’s in the top 100. We’re going through trying to name our little one and having the exact same trouble as you! Here are some suggestions that I’ve seen and thought were lovely. I hope one of them appeals to you! (Note: I’m not sure where you are located, so I used the USA popularity chart to check the names I’m listing below.)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] #316, means “noble” and has lots of cute nicknames: [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], Lady
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] #219, means “noble” same feeling as [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] but a little “lighter”. Also, because of the ending, opens up the nickname [name_f]Lina[/name_f] as another possibility.
[name_f]Annalise[/name_f] #457, means “grace”. Sounds very romantic and soft to me. Nicknames: [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Ani[/name_f], Lisey (lee-see), [name_f]Elise[/name_f].
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] #174, means “answered prayer”. [name_u]Love[/name_u] this meaning for a sweet little one. Lots of nicknames: [name_u]Ara[/name_u], [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] #516, means “helper of man” or “prophetess” (depending which website and root you’re going by). It first came onto the US social security list in 1902, then went away and popped back in 1912. Nicknames: [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], [name_u]Sandy[/name_u].
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] #108, means “bright, clear”. Reminds me of [name_f]Claire[/name_f] with a softer sound and far less popular.
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] #103, means “maiden”. Or if that’s too popular for you, try [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (#993), [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] (#2,277) or [name_f]Coretta[/name_f] (12,106) and nickname her [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. (Although for [name_f]Coretta[/name_f], I think the nickname “[name_f]Etta[/name_f]” is much nicer.)
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] #300, means “healthy”. Nicknames [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], Loly (like short for lollipop), or [name_f]Lola[/name_f].
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] #164, means “rival”. Okay, weird meaning, lol. But the name is so sweet. It sounds like the popular [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but has way nicer nicknames: [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f] or [name_f]Mila[/name_f].
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f], #907. Depending on the origin you choose, the meaning shifts. Nameberry lists it as an old [name_m]French[/name_m] name meaning “work”, OurBabyNamer lists the roots as English with the meaning “entire or whole” which I think is sweet when you think how a baby “completes” you as a family. Also great nicknames: [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f].
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] #276, means “bearer of good news”. Nicknames: [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Angel[/name_u], [name_u]Angie[/name_u], [name_f]Vangie[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f].
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] #210, on nameberry it’s [name_m]French[/name_m] and means “tribe woman”, on OurBabyNamer it’s celtic and means “race of women” (the name is sometimes referred to as Genovefa, which is probably closer to the name’s original form and has celtic roots). I love that this name is strong, yet distinctly feminine. I could see her as a designer or an athlete or a CEO equally. Nicknames: [name_f]Gen[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Viva[/name_f].
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] #502, means “bright, shining light” like a star. Can be said [[name_f]Helen[/name_f] - a], [Hell - ee - na] or [Hell - ay - na]. Depending how you choose to pronounce it, nicknames could be: [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] (lee-na).
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] #147, it’s a feminine version of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. Cute nicknames here: [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Posy[/name_f], Phina.
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] #279, means “lion strong” but sounds so flowery, what a great name! [name_m]Just[/name_m] like us ladies, soft but strong too.
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] #422, means “true desire”. Such a classic name and sooooo underused. Would also make a great middle name.
[name_f]Charline[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlize[/name_f]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
But it depends on what part of the name you like. The first two suggestions match the [name_f]Char[/name_f]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] part, and the last two match the -otte ending.
[name_f]Charlize[/name_f], [name_m]Charleston[/name_m], and [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f] are your best bets. [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f] is growing on me personally.
I’ll go off of same feel. (Brief back story: [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] used to be one of my ABSOLUTE [name_m]FAVORITE[/name_m] NAMES and for a while I thought I might name my daughter [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], but it has gotten too popular for my liking. Instead I have sought out different names with the same feel.)
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Carlotta[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlene[/name_f], [name_f]Chantal[/name_f], maybe [name_f]Christabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Christianne[/name_f], have a similar sound or origin.
If it’s something classic and maybe a bit vintage that you’re thinking of, I’ll suggest these:
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanne[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! My problem is that most names don’t feel like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]!
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]/[name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] come close. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]'s the closest. But I couldn’t replace [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] on all the places that [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is on my list, so it doesn’t even seem perfect. Maybe [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], too. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] have a semi-similar feel to me. Probably because I find them almost interchangeable in regency-inspired classic literature.
My favorite type if name!

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] feels very English to me for some reason, perhaps because it’s so popular there and I know so many from [name_f]England[/name_f]? Other names that are in the same vein as [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for me are:
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
I second the suggestion of [name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] has not been suggested and I think it has a soft vintage feel like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], but it is not super popular. I love it.
