Hello! I’d love your thoughts on names for my baby girl due in 2 weeks. Her older sister is [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. I had always loved [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f], my husband is a bit unsure (but could be convinced). I’m not that fond of any of the nicknames for [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f], so would want her to be called her full name but realise that can be hard to make happen. I feel like some people really dislike the name (at least that is what I have sensed when I have mentioned the name to people).
We both love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and it is a very ‘safe’ name (in that most people like it), but it’s so popular my only fear is her being one of many in her class. Any tips to help sway me towards either name? Both go well with the middle name and surname.
I prefer [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]. It’s a pretty, underused name. I’m not a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] fan. [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] sound lovely together. Have you thought of [name_f]Luciana[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]?
Both are lovely, but I slightly prefer [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for you because of the reasons you’ve listed. At least where I live, I’ve never come across a class with more than one [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. However, this could be geographically dependent.
I think a [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] could potentially come across a few Lucys and other Lucy/Luci variants in her class, which makes [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] feel a lot more popular than it actually is. I agree [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] is prettier than any of the nicknames for it.
The main reason I prefer Charlotte… It just sounds so lovely with [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. I think it’s very sweet that they both start with the letter C, but sound completely different. A subtle connection between the two!
However, you can’t go wrong whichever you choose because they are both gorgeous names. I’m surprised you’ve gotten such negative reactions to [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]! I think people are probably just a bit put-off because they’ve never heard it before. If you end up choosing it, I’m sure people will warm up to it.
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] is a lovely choice! What about [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Lua[/name_f], [name_f]Cindy[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_u]Lucky[/name_u], [name_m]Luck[/name_m], [name_f]Cici[/name_f], Inda or [name_u]Indie[/name_u] as nicknames?
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] & [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] together just make me think of the British royal family. Not a bad thing, but perhaps worth considering.
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] is fabulous, and it works beautifully with [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. I also think that it would be refreshing for a teacher in five years to hear [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] instead of yet another [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] on the class list. It is in that perfect spot of familiar-but-not-common.
If your husband is a little on the fence about it, though, that could be a problem. Would you consider a compromise kind of name? [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] feels like a good balance between [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] there’s Lucia/Luciana.
But I think you should at least try to win him over with [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]. It would be a great choice!
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] is almost certainly going to be a Lucy/Lucie or a [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]. It’s a fun and quirky name but I definitely prefer [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] love [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] though! [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] are super sweet together but not matchy.
I think it depends on what is most important to you. There are pros and cons to each name. As you said, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is more “safe,” meaning almost everyone likes it… Which also makes it very popular and she would be “another Charlotte” rather than standing out. [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] is less common but still feels classic. There will be people who don’t like it, but how much does that matter to you? And if you don’t love the nicknames, you can stop people from using them when she’s a baby but as she grows older you have to consider what if she wants to go by a nickname. If the idea of her choosing to go by [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] absolutely grinds your gears, then I’d say don’t use it because she should be free to have that choice, but if you can live with it as long as it’s what she wants, then keep it in the running. Personally I prefer [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] just because I prefer more unique names. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if she chooses to go by [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is currently #49 on the US charts, but [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is #4 and that is a way bigger difference than it sounds. It is almost guaranteed there will always be at least one other [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] in her class, but she may rarely ever meet any other Lucys. But it sounds like you’re on the fence about whether you want a “safe” name or a more “daring” name, so ultimately you need to decide for yourself which you’d rather go with.
I really love [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]! I think it’s a gorgeous balance between sweet and strong, magical and self-contained. It also matches the slightly romantic feeling of [name_f]Camilla[/name_f].
That being said, I prefer [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for you. I think [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] would frequently be nicknamed (although you could repeatedly insist that her full name is used). [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] matches the more classic side of [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], and is a less polarizing name. If you and your husband both love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and your only concern is popularity, I think it’s a great choice! Popularity depends on the region, and sharing a name with a classmate isn’t usually a big deal.
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] would be gorgeous as a sister to [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]! It’s approachable due to the similarity to other [name_m]Luc[/name_m]- names but still incredibly unique. It’s one of those names that I’d be super excited to encounter!
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is one of those names that, if it’s your absolute favourite I’d say go for it, however, if there are other names that you also love that aren’t quite as popular, I’d recommend using them over [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (just because it doesn’t look like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] will become any less popular in the coming years).
Oh, and I think both names would be nicknamed, however, you don’t have to nickname them and any nicknames could stay at school, etc.
I’d usually go for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] as [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] is not really my kind of name, but in your case I think [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] fits it best. Both [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] have a Spanish energy to them (or maybe it’s just the Spanish/Brazilian in me talking, met many of both in my lifetime), they’re beautiful, not overused and you’ll skip the “same initial names for siblings” tribe.
The only thing I’m not sure you’ll be able to do is keep her nickname-free. [name_f]My[/name_f] mind went to [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] the second I saw the name.
I really like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! I’ve only really known one or two (one of which being my childhood best friend, so I have a good association)
They are both beautiful! I don’t think there is a strong chance she won’t be called by some nickname, at least by some. You may never call her [name_f]Lu[/name_f], but as she gets older, her friends might. Her grandparents might start calling her LuLu and then you have to decide if you let it be or address it.
