[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone – We are gently debuting our brand new still-in-beta name-hunting tool, called oh-so-creatively Namehunter. We’d love to invite you to play with it and leave your comments here so we can add and fine-tune features over the coming weeks. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you all love it! Here’s the link: Baby Name Generator | Find the Perfect Name - Nameberry | Nameberry
It’s amazing! I put in my favorite names and it found more I liked. I’m b gonna bookmark it.
Thanks, theodora_phoenix! All praise welcome, but critiques too. We haven’t tried the app before under stress, meaning with a lot of people using it at once. At the moment, I’m having trouble generating random lists of names. Please list any problems you’re having here, in as much detail as possible! thanks for trying it out.
Well I’ve used it again. There is one little thing, though it may be related to the fact that I’m on my tablet,. When I touch one name to remove it, sometimes two names disappear.
Oh, that’s cool. It’s like Nymbler with more options and a cuter design. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!
I haven’t experienced any problems so far. I do think it would be kind of cool if we could add the app’s suggested names to the “inspirations” section by clicking and dragging or something, but other than that I can’t think of much constructive criticism.
Eek! I love it!!! Great job, [name_f]Pam[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f]! No problems so far
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! No issues on my end. On desktop, Chrome. I agree with [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] that being able to click or drag a suggested name to the inspiration section would be nice.
I love it! Some additions that would be good are:
- To be able to search using the names from a specific NB list [use an existing list for your inspiration]
- To be able to narrow the generated names using criteria such as starting letter or origin.
However, I am extremely happy with the way it is now. Thank you for making it.
Oh it’s lovely! I’d love it more if you were able to keep generating new lists from the same names like with Nymbler, but I entered some of my favourites and it came up with other favourites of mine so that’s awesome!
I love that this is going to be a feature on Nameberry! I’ve always loved the idea of Nymbler, but there were so many popular names used as suggestions that it never really seemed that useful. I tried it just once (I don’t have any names favorited, or any lists created, so I had to input my own favorites), but the suggestions either weren’t my style, or ended up roughly suiting my style, but just not something I like ([name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f]).
For example, I just put in [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelie[/name_f], and [name_f]Aurore[/name_f], and some of the suggestions are [name_f]Avani[/name_f], [name_u]Ren[/name_u], [name_u]Finley[/name_u] ([name_u]Finley[/name_u]!), [name_f]Eos[/name_f], [name_f]Feather[/name_f] ([name_f]Feather[/name_f]!), etc. I just don’t get how someone who likes [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] would also like [name_f]Feather[/name_f] and [name_u]Finley[/name_u] for girls. Admittedly, this is better than some of the “if you like this name, you might like ______” at the bottom of some of the name entries (for example, [name_m]Booker[/name_m] suggests [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m], [name_m]Anders[/name_m], [name_m]Carlos[/name_m], [name_m]Castor[/name_m], [name_u]Connolly[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], [name_m]Devereaux[/name_m], [name_m]Dougal[/name_m], [name_m]Jabez[/name_m], [name_f]Lileas[/name_f], [name_u]Matisse[/name_u] (b), [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m], [name_u]Pepper[/name_u] (g), [name_m]Pilot[/name_m], and [name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m], which seems all over the place for me!), but I think the name suggestions could be a wee bit better?
But it is a cool feature, and I’m glad Nameberry’s offering it! No technical problems here, not so far, anyway. I’m on a desktop, using Mozilla Firefox (the most updated one, I believe).
Thanks for all your comments. We hope to give you the ability to drag names from the results to inspirations soon. You have to be logged in to pull inspirations from your favorite names, which are names you’ve rated with a heart
As to where the results come from, they are names that people who like the inspiration names also like, meaning rated favorably with a heart or (previously) thumbs up
You actually can generate more results from the current inspiration kist by pressing “hunt me some names” again. But that should be more clear
Awesome!!!
[name_f]Pam[/name_f], I tried the new tool, and liked it, a lot! It took a few tries to add my own inspirations, but it eventually worked.
A very helpful, and interesting, tool!
Wonderful feature. Did a quick skim through and I really like it! I’ve been waiting for you ladies to get something like Nymbler up and running.
This is really cool. It’s like a more extensive, better designed nymbler.
It would be really awesome if you could maybe put a url for a user list into it and have it generate more names based on that list, but other then that, I don’t really have any complaints!
I agree that some of the suggestions are very off, but I guess it’ll stabilise after some time. When I used [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_m]Manuel[/name_m] and [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m] as inspirations, the top suggestions were [name_m]Wheeler[/name_m], [name_m]Moore[/name_m], [name_u]Green[/name_u], [name_m]Farmer[/name_m], [name_m]Baxley[/name_m] and [name_m]Bean[/name_m]. I found it very comical, but luckily it got much better the second time I tried. I really like the app though, and think it will be very useful!
I love it, been waiting for something like this.
All worked fine for me, the suggestions all fitted the names I put in, and no technical problems. (I’m on most updated version of Google Chrome).
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the design of it.
Big thumbs up.
For me, it’s great, but it keeps suggesting names that are already on my lists.
I like it a lot!
One thing it wasn’t doing for me that Nymbler does is continue suggesting names based off of the same inspiration. Like, I can put in [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] and keep getting new sets of suggested names without switching inspirations. Also, I tried to click and drag a name over into the inspiration thing before I realized you can’t do that. Maybe that’s something worth adding? idk. Really awesome app! Thanks for doing it!
It works well on mobile. I like the idea of being able to generate more names from the inspiration list. Nymbler’s suggestions can get very random after several pages though, so I’m not sure how well it would work in practice.
