My husband is set on the name [name]Chelsea[/name] if we have a daughter, and while I like the name, I am just not 100% sold on it. Another problem is that I don’t have any winning alternatives to offer him. I like names that will stand the test of time but that also sound fresh and aren’t overly popular. OR should I just love [name]Chelsea[/name] simply because he is so in love with it? Your input would he greatly appreciated!
[name]Chelsea[/name] is lovely, but I agree–I’m not sold on it, either! It feels a bit dated to me. What about using [name]Chelsea[/name] as a MN and finding a FN you can love together? I think something like [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Chelsea[/name] or [name]Olive[/name] [name]Chelsea[/name] or something would be very pretty.
Good luck!
Does it feel any different to you if you change the spelling to something like [name]Chelsey[/name]?
We were going to use [name]Elizabeth[/name] as a middle name for a girl. And if we do use [name]Chelsea[/name] I think I prefer that spelling over [name]Chelsey[/name]. Not sure why though. I think I fear that maybe [name]Chelsea[/name] wouldn’t stand the test of time? Thanks so much for the replies!
I agree with @[name]Ash[/name]… it feels a bit dates to me…
is there a reason why you chose the name?? A personal connection?
Maybe give a few more names that you like and let all the berries here on the website give you some more suggestion to bring back to your hubby!
I personally think [name]Chelsea[/name] is adorable. And I think the NN of simply Chels is cute, too.
I think [name]Chelsea[/name] is very pretty. I think it pairs well with middles: [name]June[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Paige[/name], [name]Wren[/name], [name]Fern[/name].
I think it will stand the test of time, and I really don’t think that it sounds dated. it was never outrageously popular, and so I don’t think it belongs to any one time.
Backtomyroots, no reason for picking it. He just really likes it. A fewother names we had thrown around: [name]Anna[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Carys[/name], [name]Delaney[/name]…
Allyfally, thanks for the comment
[name]Chelsa[/name] (yes, so E, I’m not talking [name]ChelsEa[/name]) was a name I came across recently. I thought it was kind of unique. It’s a form of [name]Chelsea[/name] and means port for chalk or limestone. I personally thought it was kind of neat and sounded a little more current and even trendy with todays [name]AH[/name] endings.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I love the nickname Chels too. I don’t know that you should love it just bc he does, but I think you should definitely keep and open mind. I don’t think it’s dated. I know several [name]Chelsea[/name]'s my age, but no little girls. I think it would sound fresh next to all the [name]Bella[/name]'s of this age group.
Claireelise, thanks so much for your input! Maybe it is the combination of [name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] that is throwing me off. [name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Beth[/name] is a very nice alternative!
kasie, you make a good point about it sounding fresh against all the super popular names out there right now. I am definitely not closed to the idea of naming our daughter [name]Chelsea[/name]. I feel a lot better about it, having talked about it and heard other people’s take on it. I’m very grateful for everyone’s feedback! It has been most helpful!
Does your husband love soccer? I mean, [name]Chelsea[/name] is a football club name.
But it is really pretty as a girl’s name. I, especially adore the nn Chels.
I like [name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name].
I like [name]Chelsea[/name] a lot. It’s pretty and not overused.
[name]Love[/name] it. Nicknames could be Sea or Chels, and yeah it’s fresh compared to the popular names now, not dated like [name]Jennifer[/name]. It would be on my list if it weren’t my hubby’s ex-girlfriend’s name.
I find [name]Chelsea[/name] very dated and [name]Brittany[/name] (a popular baby name before [name]Britney[/name] Spears, for any young 'uns) and [name]Stephanie[/name]-ish.
I know cosmic justice ensures my grandkids will be all “Granny, it’s vintaaaage and I love it…!” but I don’t.
It’s not my usual style at all, but I am positively intrigued with [name]Chelsea[/name] (ONLY this spelling!). I think it’s feminine without being frilly, and familiar without being too popular. The sound of the name is very appealing to me. I think a little [name]Chelsea[/name] would be incredibly refreshing among a sea of trendy ([name]Avery[/name], [name]Kaylee[/name]), hipster ([name]Hazel[/name], [name]Ruby[/name]), popular ([name]Olivia[/name], [name]Emma[/name]), and vintage ([name]Sylvia[/name], [name]Lydia[/name]) names that are tossed around these days. She’d be distinct, but not out of place…just a breath of fresh air. I also [name]LOVE[/name] the way it looks when written - it’s gorgeous.
I prefer middle names that are not too short/fluffy. I tend to lean towards longer, more elegant sounding names. Some suggestions with [name]Chelsea[/name]:
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] (she could be called CeCe or something, too, which is a-DOR-able)
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name]
You could also go with a “spunkier” middle name:
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Palmer[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Harper[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Greer[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Brynn[/name] (my first name is [name]Brynn[/name], and it makes a nice middle name too )
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Blake[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
Good luck on your decision!
[name]Hi[/name], I’m 15 and my name is [name]Chelsea[/name]. Currently at my high school of 400 there are 5 [name]Chelsea[/name]'s. Although in elementary there was only me for 10 years out of 700 kids.
[name]Just[/name] to let you know I absolutely love my name! My parents came up with the name because there’s an area in [name]Quebec[/name] near beautiful lakes and our cottage. I really love the sound of my nickname, Chels. For a little while I was kind of obsessed with shortening it to [name]Elsea[/name], [name]Elsie[/name], or [name]Elsa[/name]. I love it all! Personally, I only really like the spelling of [name]Chelsea[/name] no w y’s or anything. but that’s probably just because I have Synesthesia so each letter has a colour making my name a rainbow. Good luck with deciding! Anything you and your husband chose will be great!
me too! I love hearing everyone calling me Chels, it’s crisp at the end but nice and soft at the beginning! I had no clue until last year that there’s that huge club! my friend and i were on Youtube and she decided to randomly look up ‘the [name]Chelsea[/name] song’. I burst out laughing when there was actually a song!
