Hubby and I are expecting our 5th baby. We both love the name [name]Chester[/name], but upon looking around the web for info about the name I’ve found the horrible association many people make ‘chester the molester’ that neither of us had heard before. So i have a few questions. What do you think of the name overall? Does anyone have/know a [name]Chester[/name]? [name]Do[/name] they get teased badly or hate their name? Does [name]Chester[/name] go with my other kids names-[name]Phynix/name, [name]David/name, [name]Broedy/name and [name]Nash/name?
The name flows well with my last name, and I am not concerned at all about the cheetos association. We also both like the nicknames [name]Chet[/name] and/or Ches and are also considering a J middle name for a possiblity of CJ as well. I want to use the full name [name]Chester[/name], and the nicknames will only be there for him to choose to use as he gets older.
Really, even you had heard the ‘molester’ joke before, but then knew a little boy named [name]Chester[/name], wouldn’t you make the name assocition with the little boy after that, not some creepy old man joke?
I don’t want to name my son something that will give him ridicule for life, but I also love the name and think it’s terrible that it’s been ruined so bad by a stupid saying.
I immediately thought of [name]Chester[/name] the Molester which was a comic: Chester the Molester - Wikipedia I honestly don’t know how I even know that since I’ve never read Hustler. I have a feeling it’s rhyme makes it catchy and that just sort of filtered down to other non-Hustler readers.
I don’t know what to tell you about a name like this but I look at it this way: I see [name]Chester[/name] on a name board and because I’m specifically thinking about problems that could arise I make the molester connection but if I met one in real life I don’t think that’s the first thing that would come to mind and in fact I doubt it would come to mind at all. If I met a kid named [name]Chester[/name] I wouldn’t make fun of the name or think the parents were crazy but personally it’s nms.
If you love it I think you can make it work but if you’re at all worried about the teasing potential it might not be the best choice. The famous jazz musician [name]Chet[/name] [name]Baker[/name]'s real name was [name]Chesney[/name] so maybe you could make something like that work?
I love the name [name]Chester[/name], but I don’t think it is right with your sibset. [name]Phynix[/name], [name]David[/name], [name]Broedy[/name], [name]Nash[/name], and [name]Chester[/name]? [name]Chester[/name] is the odd one out, but I also want to say [name]David[/name] does not fit with your sibset with [name]Phynix[/name], [name]Broedy[/name], and [name]Nash[/name]. That being said, since you may or may not have already decided not to keep all names within the same style, [name]Chester[/name] may work for you.
I have an uncle named [name]Chester[/name], and he goes by [name]Chet[/name]. (There is a bit of bad blood between some of my family with him, so the negative association thing comes into play for me, though!) Putting that aside, I honestly didn’t even think of ‘[name]Chester[/name] the Molester’ until you mentioned it. I like Ches as a nn over [name]Chet[/name]. Really love CJ over either of the others, though. Maybe [name]Chester[/name] [name]John[/name] or [name]Chester[/name] [name]James[/name]? I do like the flow with your other kids names, too.
I’d never heard of [name]Chester[/name] the molester for what that’s worth. I’ve heard this brought up for names [name]Esther[/name] and [name]Celeste[/name] too, so it’s not the only name in the world with the concern. It would give me pause, but…I dunno. I also agree it doesn’t really fit with the sibset, but, they’re also pretty varied and I think it would work enough.
I feel like Ches and [name]Chet[/name] could work for nicknames for [name]Charles[/name] too if you are looking elsewhere.
I think any parents that go from one style extreme ([name]Phynix[/name] on a girl) to the other ([name]David[/name] on a boy) and then have two more children whose names fall somewhere in between don’t have to worry about whether or not their kids’ names sound good together.
I want to love [name]Chester[/name]. I could get over “the Molester” thing, but am I the only one who thinks [name]Chester[/name] sounds like “chest hair”?
I think [name]Chester[/name] is a good, old-fashioned solid name. I adore the nickname [name]Chet[/name]. I never heard of [name]Chester[/name] the Molester and I wouldn’t let it be a concern. It’s a surefire way of letting your kid weed out his friends from the really immature ones.
Thanks all for the feedback. My husband will not get past the molester jokes so has refused to use the name. I also just wanted to add that altho I like the nicknames with this name, I prefer the full name of [name]Chester[/name] and it is what i would use on him unless he demanded use of a nickname himself when older. I do like [name]Chesney[/name] but it feels more girly too me and I don’t like any variations suggested-like [name]Charles[/name](which I couldn’t use anyway), I like just regular [name]Chester[/name] in it’s entirety lol. I also could not find a J name I liked as a middle name-we already have [name]James[/name] as a mn and it’s the only one I like, so the nn CJ was out.
And yes [name]David[/name] is different from my other kids names, because he is named after his dad and grandfather. He is [name]David[/name] [name]Norman[/name] the 3rd and I am traditional in the sense that I felt my 1st born should be named after his father. and that said, there are no [name]David[/name]'s at his school or any in our town under the age of 20, so where I live, [name]David[/name] on a 7yo is uncommon. To me, all 4 sound like south west rodeo rider names and go together.
I immediately thought of [name]Chester[/name] the Molester. Therefore, I’d most definitely avoid the name. Secondly I thought of the Cheetos cartoon dude.
Immediately thought of [name]Chester[/name] the Molester. I think being a boy, he would get teased a lot during his middle school years for this. Boys are cruel and even if they are teasing in fun, it’s bond to happen.
I do [name]LOVE[/name] the nn, [name]Chet[/name] though. The suggestion from an above posted about using [name]Chesney[/name] with the nn [name]Chet[/name] is pretty cool. I also think [name]Chesney[/name] would fit in with the rest of your kids names better.
