Chevelle

So I stumbled across the name, Chevelle. It doesn’t seem to be listed on many sites as a baby name and isn’t in my baby book. That makes me like it even more, since it seems like it isn’t used much, if at all. Sometimes you can’t find a name that’s a word name anywhere because they are sometimes terrible, but I think it’s a lovely name. I am 32wks and OH and I have agreed on maybe 2 names so far, and this is one of them. [name]Just[/name] wondering what others think of this name? Thanks =D

I don’t like it. Reminds me of Chevrolet.

I agree, sorry. Chevelle also reminds me of [name]Dave[/name] Chappelle, haha.

It just reminds me of the band Chevelle that had a one-hit wonder that I don’t even remember the name of. So I’m not a fan, sorry.

I don’t like it that much. It sounds like a kitchen brand. [name]One[/name] that people would buy then return right away.

Well cheval is ‘horse’ in French, so that’s all I would hear…

Chevelle is in the same basket as [name]Mercedes[/name] in my opinion.

I think my dad used to have a Chevrolet Chevelle

I knew a girl named Chevelle when I was young, nn was [name]Chevy[/name]

So, I’m going to go against the flow here and say I like it, but it’s mostly because I like the band Chevelle. I believe the song that kathrynsarah mentioned is probably The [name]Red[/name] which is all about being angry so I’m not sure if it’s the best name knowing that…but ultimatly it’s your child and you get to pick the name regardless of what we have to say here.

I like the band also, and it doesn’t bother me that it’s also a car. [name]Mercades[/name], Chevelle, Porche… They aren’t ugly names imo. It’s close to [name]Chanel[/name] which I think is also a pretty name. Thanks for the honest opinions. The " kitchen brand you’d want to return right away" was a little harsh though =(

It’s a car with no history of use as a name. I don’t like it.

I wouldn’t use it. I lump it in with the “brand” names, which generally are tacky (imo). The only exceptions I’d make to that statement are names like [name]Mercedes[/name] and [name]Porscha[/name], which have historically been used as a name. I knew lots of girls named [name]Mercedes[/name] growing up because it was a popular family name where i’m from.

That said, if you really love it ignore everyone and use it.

My Cousins baby is named Chevelle, because he loves cars obviously. My first thought was cute her nickname is [name]Chevy[/name] aswell. Sometimes goes by Vels. She is a cute, adorable child and a name suits a child.

I listen to Chevelle  but I don’t think it would be suitable as a name. Its similarity to [name]Chanel[/name] and [name]Michelle[/name] give it an 80s/90s vibe. Maybe as a middle name. [name]Mercedes[/name] is a legitimate name, and so is [name]Portia[/name]. [name]Porsche[/name] and [name]Chanel[/name] are surnames, so maybe they just about get away with it.

I am okay with a lot of word names, but product names I can’t get on board with. Cars, perfumes, clothing lines, yikes. I know you say it wouldn’t bother you, but some of us are just giving ideas of what potential reactions will be from others, positive and negative. And reactions your child might have in the future. Good luck with deciding
