Sometimes when I get an idea I can’t move forward to actually picturing things and start writing and developing characters. I need a girls name. I want something classy, fresh, but not trendy or Kr8tive. I have a few that I like, but I’m not sure I love any of them (I guess I spend hours making lists for nothing).
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]- the front runner
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Leila[/name_f]/[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
But I can’t seem to picture my character with any of these names.
She has mid length, light blonde hair, green eyes, pale-ish skin, & long dark eyelashes. She’s about 5’6’’ in height. She was a child actor (she’s in her late teens, early twenties as I picture her) and is now struggling to stay in Hollywood’s eyes and get roles. She’s an only child, has no idea who her father is, her mother remarried and her stepfather is crazy, physically abusive, and a drug addict. So she’s a strong, secretive girl who doesn’t ask for help, a loner. She realizes later on that she has no friends who really care about her because she pushed them all away. I can’t find any names to fit her.
Some of the other character’s names
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
That’s all I’ve got. If you could help me, that would be awesome. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!
If you have an [name_f]Adriana[/name_f], cross of [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].
For a child actress serious name with cute nickname is preferable, as far as I know. So maybe…
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]”/"[name_m]Nolly[/name_m]"
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f] “[name_u]Sammy[/name_u]”
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]/[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] “[name_u]Olly[/name_u]”/"[name_f]Livy[/name_f]"
Vivienn “[name_f]Vi[/name_f]”/"[name_f]Vivi[/name_f]"
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] “[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] “[name_f]Gwennie[/name_f]/[name_f]Wendy[/name_f]”
So something like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] or [name_f]Gwennie[/name_f] [name_m]Bridger[/name_m] would sound perfect when you are telling about her childhood and you may call her by full name when she is in the late teens.
Maybe have a look at child actresses of the late 90s/early 2000s (I don’t know what years your character was active) and see what sort of names they had - from memory there was [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_m]Olsen[/name_m], [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] [name_u]Duff[/name_u], [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] Lohan - all with pretty normal sounding names.
I could actually see your character being something like a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], maybe named after her grandmother or something but was given a cutesy nickname as a child star and now can’t shake it because that’s what the media call her on the rare occasions she is mentioned by them.
I like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], but it’s too close to [name_f]Adriana[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]? Maybe nn [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] when she’s younger?
Of the others, [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is best. [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], in my opinion, is more ethereal and mystical than spunky and Hollywood. Though nn [name_f]Marcy[/name_f] could work.
I like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. First name that came to mind. I also really like [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]. Also, what do you think of Caroline, possibly nn Carly? That way, you get the full name, as well as the cute childhood nickname. Or Charlotte ‘Lottie’…
