[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! I am in the midst of writing a novel (so excited!) and I am already now sure that I am going to use a pen name, because I have a Scandinavian surname that nobody can pronounce, hahah. [name_f]Jacklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], my username, is not my real name.
I have thought about a couple of names, and I would like to get some feedback from you all. When you see these names, what do you think? Good or bad for an author? And when you say it out loud, do you think it “flows” and sounds good? As a non-native English speaker I would really love getting feedback on this. Thank you. And, by the way, my real first name is [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f].
[name_f]Jacklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (or [name_f]Jacquelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f])
[name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] [name_f]Raquel[/name_f] ([name_f]Raquel[/name_f] is my grandmother’s middle name)
[name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] [name_m]Wolff[/name_m] or Wolffe (is it just me or is this difficult to pronounce?)
[name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] J. [name_u]Gray[/name_u]
[name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] J. [name_u]West[/name_u]
Also, I have thought about using the first name [name_u]Jackie[/name_u] since it would be short for my second name, [name_f]Jacquelyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Jackie[/name_u] is a good name for an author, or does it look childish?
I am very grateful for any feedback. Thanks!
I actually prefer [name_f]Jacklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] although [name_u]Jackie[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] doesn’t have a bad ring to it either.
I like [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] (why the double f?) best from your list. I don’t think it’s difficult. [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is also great.
[name_f]Jacklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] has a nice ring to it, but I don’t know how I feel about [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a surname. I really like the idea of [name_f]Jacklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u], or [name_f]Jacklyn[/name_f] R. [name_u]West[/name_u], if you’re into it.
Otherwise, [name_f]Jacklyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] J. [name_u]West[/name_u] are my favourites from your list
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Gray[/name_u], [name_m]Wolff[/name_m], [name_u]West[/name_u], and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] all sound fantastic! I would personally spell [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] this way and I would leave out the J.
I like the sounds of [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] a lot
Also, I hope you don’t mind me asking, could I maybe talk to you somehow about your heritage? Nordic/Scandinavian culture plays a big part in my novel I hope to write, but I am largely uneducated on your culture and internet research can only get me so far.
I understand if you are not comfortable with that though! Good luck with your writing
Also, just to add, I think using the last name [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] may make people think of [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] - so if that is the name you choose to pen with, you may want to consider that as well!
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] or [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] Wolffe I think would work best.
I like [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]— what the other person said about [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] is true, while obviously that’s a good association you want to stand out as your own person/writer.
I would keep [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] because a) it is your own name, and I think that’s special and b) [name_f]Jacklyn[/name_f] is a very standard name while [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] stands out a bit more, which is a good thing.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Gray[/name_u] and [name_u]West[/name_u] to me seem more like middle names than last names. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] I think sounds more like a last name.
I would not take out the ‘H’ in [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] to make it [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]. [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] is definitely usable!
side note, I am also a writer with a 15 letter last name that is unusable so I totally understand what you’re going through! Good luck on your novel.
[name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] J [name_u]West[/name_u] is my favourite from your list, [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] at a close second.
