Christian -- too religious?

Is [name_u]Christian[/name_u] too religious of a name? I think it’s soft but strong and I love the nickname [name_u]Kit[/name_u] for it. But I don’t know if it’s too tied to Christianity and religious Christians to actually use on a child. I technically am religious (was raised in a [name_u]Christian[/name_u] religion) but not really practicing at this time. I don’t know if that makes it weirder?

Give me all the thoughts on this one, I need them!

I also like the similar [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], but don’t like the sad meaning or that I can’t use [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nickname.

I’d happily use it anyway. Would be different if you were a different religion altogether I think but I don’t particularly associate it as being a religious name for some weird reason.

Maybe you’d enjoy [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], Christobal, or [name_m]Kristoff[/name_m] as a [name_u]Kit[/name_u] full name? I do find [name_u]Christian[/name_u] quite tied to the religion myself, just because it’s quite literally the name of a very popular religion!

I’m not religious and it’s too religious for me. I do really like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] though! I’d go with one of the alternative ways to get there.

Too religious for me and i find it a bit odd to use the name of a religion, but it is an established name ans Im sure not every [name_u]Christian[/name_u] out there has religious parents

Maybe depends on where you are? I’m [name_u]Christian[/name_u] and in the southern US. I wouldn’t assume someone named [name_u]Christian[/name_u] was a practicing [name_u]Christian[/name_u]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u] Maybe [name_m]Kester[/name_m] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]?

I love, love, love [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. But I haven’t been able to find a full version I like! I’m open to suggestions though! [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it’s a bit of a stretch, I’ll take it.

[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] I like the idea of, but I’ve met too many jerks with that name to ever seriously consider it.

I would honestly be more likely to assume a Christian is not from a super-Christian family (though of course that’s a relative term). Obviously you wouldn’t use it if you practice another religion, but as a name I associate it more with “vaguely Christian roots,” and not “devout practicing Christian.”

I see evangelical Christians going with super Biblical names–think Boaz, Selah, Malachi, Lydia–and of course traditional Catholics have saint names like Ambrose, Faustina, Charles, Ignatius.

I see it as handsome and not that religious. Ironic, I know. However, I wouldn’t use it if you mind occasional assumptions about your religion from others.

Growing up Hispanic & in [name_u]Texas[/name_u], I’ve know plenty of Christian’s and even a [name_m]Cristian[/name_m], maybe you would like this option as well?

I’m not religious myself, but I was raised Catholic, and even then it’s always been a pretty established name when I hear it. Again, probably due to the many I’ve met.

I don’t think it’s weird at all for you to use it, but also depends where you are I think

I was raised Catholic too and also think of the name separately from the religion! But I don’t know if other people will, and that’s why I’m unsure of using it, you know? [name_m]Cristian[/name_m] is a very cool version

I would assume strong [name_u]Christian[/name_u] ties. I love the suggestion of [name_m]Kristoff[/name_m], nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]!

Yaaaa…too religious, but I avoid all names with any meaning related to religion, except for Greek mythology I guess. That cuts out like half of all names. [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] literally has [name_m]Christ[/name_m] in the name so I wouldn’t worry about it.

I’m a [name_u]Christian[/name_u]. For some reason, I don’t really see the name as religious itself. It just feels like a name to me and I’ve met several who had nonreligious parents. Now a church position name, such as [name_m]Bishop[/name_m] or [name_m]Deacon[/name_m], yeah I’d think the parents were religious. I know, it’s weird and I can’t explain it.

I’m not really religious but I don’t see a problem. I’ve always loved the name [name_u]Christian[/name_u]. I say go for it! I’d use it myself just because I’ve quite literally always loved it.

I personally think [name_u]Christian[/name_u] would be ok to use. [name_u]Or[/name_u] slightly different variants like [name_m]Cristian[/name_m] / [name_u]Kristian[/name_u] or [name_m]Carsten[/name_m] / Karsten…

Stretchy but [name_u]Beckett[/name_u], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] or [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m] could maybe have the nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]? There’s always the Cornish [name_m]Kitto[/name_m] too!

I don’t think it’s too religious. [name_u]Or[/name_u] what about the spelling [name_u]Kristian[/name_u] (which is more popular in Europe). That seems to slightly sidestep the religious association and also gets you even closer to [name_u]Kit[/name_u]!

Huge stretch, but I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] (if you want to go bold, it’s such a cool name!)

For me it’s a name. I’ve met a few men named [name_u]Christian[/name_u] and none of them struck me as some kind of religious stereotype. I would expect someone named [name_u]Christian[/name_u] to be culturally [name_u]Christian[/name_u]. It would be weird if he came from a Hindu or Muslim family. But that’s about as far as my expectations go.

Honestly, I am a somewhat practicing [name_u]Christian[/name_u], and I associate it more strongly with [name_u]Christian[/name_u] [name_m]Slater[/name_m] than I do religion  I think [name_u]Christian[/name_u] [name_m]Slater[/name_m] and [name_u]Christian[/name_u] [name_m]Bale[/name_m] have sort of helped to dilute the religious vibe of the name and make it more “name like”, imo.

It is such a well-established name that it doesn’t seem overtly religious to me. I have a cousin called [name_u]Kristian[/name_u] which tbh I prefer over [name_u]Christian[/name_u].

I know a guy named [name_u]Christian[/name_u] but I have no idea if he’s religious or not… [name_f]My[/name_f] friend has an older brother named [name_u]Christian[/name_u] that does hold religious values. I’d say go with [name_u]Chris[/name_u] or [name_u]Kit[/name_u], or change the c to a K.
