Hi all!

Tossing up between these two names. I love Clara but I’m worried it sounds a bit stuck up and is maybe becoming a bit too popular/trendy. I also love Carrie but am concerned it sounds a bit too nickname-y and won’t work well as she becomes an adult.

What do you think?

[name_f]Carrie[/name_f] is such a timeless nickname. I’m not one for [name_f]Clara[/name_f] myself, but I adore [name_f]Carrie[/name_f]! I can see it working through one’s whole life.

I prefer [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] but i think it stands on its own just fine and i slightly prefer [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] to [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

Both are lovely choices!

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] is bright, light and charming - not stuck up!! It is the more popular of the two, however.

[name_f]Carrie[/name_f] is sweet but sparky, cute but substantial too - I like a nickname-y name and this works just fine as a fullname - and on an adult. (I know a teenaged [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] who wears it well!)

I wonder if there’s a magic third option?

[name_f]Carrie[/name_f] is sweet and approachable, I know two adult Carries and it definitely ages well - but for some reason I don’t love the sound it makes when saying/hearing it (nor Caroline). That may well just be me, so not a big deciding factor!

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] is fancier sounding, lovely to say, and is more on trend - but its downside is its lack of nicknames (or nicknames that are too stretchy) and it may date more than [name_f]Carrie[/name_f]. But I wouldn’t worry about being stuck up sounding - it’s very in sync with other “posh”/pretty names.

What about [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f], or [name_f]Lara[/name_f]? (There’s [name_f]Cora[/name_f] too but that’s probably more popular than [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and I think I prefer Clara.)

How are you pronouncing [name_f]Clara[/name_f]? I like KLAARA pronunciation I actually love this name however clair-uh pronunciation isn’t my cup of tea so I would go with [name_f]Carrie[/name_f]. [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] is adorable with a southern flair.

I prefer Clara 1000%

Clara - beautiful balletic name, with a lovely sound. Feels clean, elegant, poised, even perhaps a bit regal, but also adorable at the same time. I imagine a little cute girl with a bow, but also a grownup. I pronounce it ‘Klaara’. I really love this one. I actually think that while Clara is def a classy name, I would still imagine someone with a super fun personality.

Carrie- Cool girl vibes. But I also obviously think of Carrie Bradshaw (love Sex and the City, but I never liked her character )

From a fellow Aussie, there’s also the Indigenous Australian names, [name_f]Kirra[/name_f] and [name_f]Kirrily[/name_f]. I like the sprightly feel of [name_f]Kirra[/name_f] and [name_f]Kirrily[/name_f], or else (Irish) [name_f]Keira[/name_f] or (Persian) [name_f]Kyra[/name_f].

But of the two you’re thinking, in an [name_m]Oz[/name_m] context, I wound pick [name_f]Clara[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] in southern US context as it almost sounds like Care-y but in [name_m]Oz[/name_m], I just don’t love the sound as much. It’s nice but not as pretty as other sounds (to my ear!). Hmmm, it’s tricky as [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] is very friendly and likeable!

My mom’s name is Carrie, so I’m probably biased :heartpulse: In our part of the US, Carrie is a pretty common name, so the only issue my mom has ever faced is with spelling. I realize this might not be the case in Australia, though.

Also the Australian pronunciation of Clara is WAY better than the American lol
