BIG thank you to all who replied to my previous thread. I took too long to respond and now don’t wish to drag it up from the depths of the forums, but your responses were much appreciated!!!
Now I need your opinions on the ‘Ssss’ names in my list!
What do you think of the following names?
Which are usuable first names? Middles only? Unusable?
Can you suggest similar names which I may like?
Of all the names on your list I like [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] the best, it’s on my list as well. [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] and [name_m]Samwise[/name_m] sound like middle names only too me.
[name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] : stunning, stunning name. I don’t know why but I always find that nÂme so sexy. Definitely usable & first name.
Artorius : Iam sorry but I don’t like this. Is similar to [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Arturo[/name_m]? If you love it I think it’s better on the middle,.
[name_m]Clarence[/name_m] : Like it. Unexpected & cool. I loved the nn [name_m]Clay[/name_m].
[name_m]Eames[/name_m] : Not my style. I prefer [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] but still nice name.
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] : Gorgeous name & love the nn [name_m]Eli[/name_m].
[name_m]Holmes[/name_m] : [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_m]Holmes[/name_m]? [name_u]Love[/name_u] the association & the sound. It would make a stunning middle.
[name_m]Idris[/name_m] : Sorry but I dislike this.
[name_m]Mathias[/name_m] : Usable & stunning.
[name_u]Maurice[/name_u] : I don’t know why but it reminds me of cats somehow lol.
[name_m]Phoebus[/name_m] : [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] on a girl is beautiful, [name_m]Phoebus[/name_m] on a boy not so much. When I hear of [name_m]Phoebus[/name_m] it came to my mind the series of Friends when [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] suggest names for [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]'s & [name_m]Ross[/name_m]'s baby. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] for a girl & [name_m]Phoebus[/name_m] for a boy lol.
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] : Great unexpected name better on the middle.
Samwise : [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name with the friendly nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u].
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] : Gorgeous, Gorgeous
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] : I like it but i’am not sure how usable is. I can’t thibk of any nn for this.
Overall I think it’s a great list with my favourites be [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] & [name_m]Tobias[/name_m].
The only I dislike is [name_m]Idris[/name_m].
And I find them very usable all
Thanks for the feedback guys! I wasn’t expecting such positive comments if I’m honest!
I think I will remove Artorius from the list. I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] but DH (who has rather eccentric taste in names!) says it’s boring, so I was searching for a variant that might appease him. Artorius is an ancient [name_m]Roman[/name_m] family name, possibly connected to [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] somewhere down the line. I’m not sure this one really does the job, judging by some of the comments! Thanks though I really do appreciate the honesty!
Though I love [name_m]Phoebus[/name_m], I can live without him, so he can be resigned to my guilty pleasure list!
Surprised (but happy) about the love for [name_m]Clarence[/name_m], [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] and [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m]!
If anyone has suggestions of other names I might like, I’d love to hear them!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites from your list are: [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] - I personally adore this as a middle
[name_m]Idris[/name_m] - so so cool. As a first I’m not too sure as the only nickname I could come up with was Idy which sounds like idiot.
Artorius - [name_u]Love[/name_u]! Sounds like Victorious to me which is a good thing. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the meaning as well, same as for all the [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] names. I think [name_m]Arto[/name_m] would be a great nickname (it’s the name we have picked out for a boy!). [name_m]Arturo[/name_m] is amazing also.
[name_m]Holmes[/name_m] is really great too!
[name_m]Clarence[/name_m] - Handsome vintage gem.
[name_m]Eames[/name_m] - Great alternative to popular, but handsome [name_u]James[/name_u].
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] - Not a fan of “eli” names, but it’s perfectly usable.
[name_m]Idris[/name_m] - Sounds very ethnic. I thought it was an African-American name, but now I see it’s Welsh. Oh. Anyways, I think it’s usable.
[name_m]Mathias[/name_m] - Handsome! A wonderful alternative to [name_m]Matthew[/name_m].
[name_u]Maurice[/name_u] - I’m a hardcore [name_m]Moritz[/name_m] fan and I love [name_u]Maurice[/name_u], too, it sounds similar. Might be hard to pull off because it’s considered an old man name, but I think it could work.
[name_m]Phoebus[/name_m] - THANK YOU! For introducing me to this. I think I’ve just fallen in love. Unusual, but usable.
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] - Perfectly usable. I adore it.
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - Perfectly usable, too. [name_u]Toby[/name_u] is adorable.
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] - I heard it’s common in some areas so I think it’s usable. It feels psychedelic to me…
As a middle name
[name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] - It feels very posh to me and definitely too much for a child. I imagine a male stripper. Sorry, sorry, sorry admirers of [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m]!
Artorius - A bit too complicated for a first name, although could work as a middle. Reminds me of [name_m]Arthur[/name_m].
[name_m]Holmes[/name_m] - Handsome. I’d work as a first if not [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m].
Samwise - Never heard of it. A bit too strange for a first name, I think.
Names with a similar style:
[name_m]Fergus[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]
[name_m]Erasmus[/name_m]
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]Marius[/name_m]
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]
[name_m]Aramis[/name_m]
Names with the same style but without the ‘S’ sound:
[name_m]Inek[/name_m]
[name_m]Horatio[/name_m]
[name_m]Errol[/name_m]
[name_m]Percival[/name_m]
[name_m]Anatole[/name_m]
@[name_f]Polina[/name_f] - Thanks for the feedback. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like [name_m]Phoebus[/name_m] - I thought I was the only one!! I would have never associated [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] with a stripper haha that’s so funny! Samwise is the full name of the Hobbit [name_u]Sam[/name_u] from [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings (of which I’m a huge fan!) I’d only use Samwise in the middle spot!
@christabel - Thanks so much for the suggestions! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], but unfortunately [name_m]Barney[/name_m] just makes me think of the purple dinosaur. I quite like [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] and [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]… two to ponder over! Thanks!
Phineas - love it! Awesome name
Elias - love it!
Tobias - like it a lot, great name
Mathias - lovely name
Eames - meh, okay
Clarence - not one I like but I think it’s usable
Ulysses -meh
Maurice - meh, very french
Amadeus - interesting, but too close to Amanda and other feminine names for me to see it working well on a boy
Idris - I thought this was a female name actually, I guess it’s the similarity to Iris and Idina etc.
Artorius - meh
Holmes - too associated with Sherlock and with gangs for me
Phoebus - too feminine
Samwise - sorry way too LOTR
Here’s a few I like: Darius, Theophilus, Nicodemus, Emrys, Silas
