Clarissa, Virginia, Vanessa, Angelica

Are names on my mind after watching “The Hours” yesterday.

[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] - is this okay to use? I love it, it makes me think of the early 1900s and silent films but am I setting her up for a lifetime of virgin jokes?

[name_f]Angelica[/name_f] - is growing on me. Sound-wise I prefer [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] but I dislike that associations with the actress.

[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] - this was the name of [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] Woolf’s sister. Always surprised that it is quite old because it often seems so modern to me.

[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] - is this too prissy? Is [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] better? [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] gives me a mysterious, interesting image. For [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] I still get the rich woman playing cricket image. But it is growing on me.

Thanks!

[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] – I really like this, and I have known a few of all different ages. They haven’t gotten virgin jokes to my knowledge. I associate it more with the US state than anything.

[name_f]Angelica[/name_f] – This is my favorite of the ‘angel’ names. I know an [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] who wore it very well!

[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] – I agree that it seems more modern than it is! It’s still a little dated to me, but I think it will be due for a comeback in the future.

[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] – It is slightly prissy to me, and I prefer [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]. I could see it growing on me; I do like [name_u]Clare[/name_u] and [name_f]Clary[/name_f] as nicknames. [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] is my preferred version of this name.

I love [name_f]Virginia[/name_f]! So gorgeous! That’s my favorite from your list. Such a vintage gem.
I can’t really imagine a bunch of virgin jokes. Seems like something not super jokes about anymore, people I know just don’t care so much. (Also, there was some rapper or artist or something that had a slogan “Virginity Rocks” and kids wore it on sweaters all through high school! Not a big deal at all, I suppose!!:relaxed:)

[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] and [name_f]Virginie[/name_f] are lovely. There are worse things to be teased about than virginity. I love [name_f]Ginnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] as nns.

[name_f]Angelica[/name_f] is nice, but I too think of [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] whom I dislike. [name_f]Anjelika[/name_f] reminds me of [name_m]Huston[/name_m] who I definitely do like.

[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] got overused where I am, but it is a lovely name. Nessis is a cute nn.

[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] is lovely and I have never met one. It is not prissy. [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] is wonderful too, but I have met those.

[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]: I think of the state first, though I love the nickname [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]. I don’t think virgin jokes are the end of the world.

[name_f]Angelica[/name_f]: I love [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] and [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] sold it for me even more. You might like [name_f]Angeline[/name_f] if your are trying to avoid the association with [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] (I don’t see her as a negative association though)

[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]: I think it’s so pretty! It it a literary name created by the author [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] [name_m]Swift[/name_m]. It’s also the name of a genus of butterfly. Great associations overall.

[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]: Makes me think of [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] Explains It All, though I don’t think that’s relevant now. I prefer [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] because I think it’s stronger and I love the nickname [name_f]Cassie[/name_f].
