Classic but not boring Girl Names :)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all! I am excited to be naming my 3rd child, who will be sister to [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] (Danny) and [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

If I were to give a theme to the names I’ve been exploring I think it would be “classic but not boring”. [name_f]My[/name_f] top choice right now is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u] but my only hesitations are- does [name_u]Danny[/name_u] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] sound bad together? And is the name [name_f]Anna[/name_f] too popular/ boring? I love it, and it is my mom’s name, but I don’t feel 100% committed to it!

Here is our list of top favorites!

[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_u]Maria[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
Leonora/ [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]

I also ADORE the names [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] but they are all cousin names or names of people I am close with.

I would love to hear feedback on any of these names or any other suggestions people have that would fit in with this category!!!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u] is lovely & nice to honor your mom. However, I do think that it’s kind of too close to [name_u]Danny[/name_u]. It has the potential for the nn [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. And even if you don’t choose to call her [name_f]Annie[/name_f], the potential of it is too close for me. I also wouldn’t say that [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is boring, but it is really popular. I think it’d be gorgeous a mn though.

Here are my thoughts on the rest of your list:

Maria-I think it’s interesting, but I don’t know why I can’t get into it. I like [name_u]Marie[/name_u] more. [name_u]Maria[/name_u] just sounds kind of dramatic to me.

Nora-Beautiful. Simple, classic, smart & feminine but not frilly. [name_u]Perfect[/name_u] with [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] & [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

Elizabeth-I like it. It’s classic; maybe a little boring. It has a lot of cute nns. I love the nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f], but it’s sort of a stretch. [name_u]Danny[/name_u], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] & [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_u]Daniel[/name_u], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] & [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] would be darling.

Lucia-So pretty & nice with your crew. [name_f]My[/name_f] only problem with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is that it has three different pronunciations. Seems like a headache.

Anastasia-Never did like the sound of this. It’s so heavy & dramatic. And also has the ‘Annie’ thing.

Julia-Not my absolute favorite name, but pretty & solid & really nice with your kids’ names.

Isadora-I think it might be too close to [name_f]Isla[/name_f]? Maybe not. I love [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], but [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] isn’t as pretty in my opinion. Less common though.

Beatrice-Aw, so sweet. It’s bright & just the right amount of bookish. Well known and old fashioned but not over done.

Heidi-Not into this one. I just don’t like the sound.

Annabel-Not bad; I prefer [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. Kind of too cutesy, but sweet. Still too close to [name_u]Daniel[/name_u].

Madeline-Some days I like it & some days it feels 90s to me. Either way, I think that the fact that this is sometimes said Mad-uh-lin & sometimes Mad-uh-line (I really prefer the latter) is kind of a pain. And I don’t like [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] though!

Penelope-Love it. [name_u]Perfect[/name_u] with your crew & lots of fun nn options. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Nellie[/name_f].

Sarah-I think it’s fine. Almost feels too 80s though.

Leonora/ Lenora-I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Leora[/name_f], but for some reason this sounds darker & I can’t get into it. It is old fashioned & interesting though.

Leah-Sweet & simple. Nice choice.

A few other ideas-

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]

[name_f]Clara[/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]

[name_f]Flora[/name_f]

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]

Gwendolen-I like the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]!

[name_u]Holly[/name_u]

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

It is a bit too close to [name_u]Danny[/name_u]. I would maybe use [name_f]Anna[/name_f] for the middle in this instance or use it as part of the first name like [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]! That way she gets her own name but it’s a pretty clear honor to your mom

Maybe:

[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] / [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianna[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Luanna[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Elianna[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] (from your [name_f]Julia[/name_f] suggestion)
[name_f]Georgianna[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Dianna[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

Hopefully these help

I LOVE all of this feedback!!! You’re the best, thank you! These are exactly the types of feedback I hope to get when asking my family about names and its mostly just “that one’s okay” or “that’s nice”. But THIS is what I need! Thank you :). Sliding [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], Elisabeth/ [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], & [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] to the top of my list!

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] (with the nn Winnie) are all joining the list too!

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a little too close to [name_u]Danny[/name_u], if he’s called that most of the time. If he’s usually [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] it’s fine though.

Of the other names on your list, I think [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] go really well with your older kids’ names. [name_f]Leah[/name_f] would also fit but I think it sounds too much like [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

[name_u]Danny[/name_u] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] aren’t too bad, but there’s always the risk she might become [name_f]Annie[/name_f] :person_shrugging:

I like [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] - lovely options!

A few others could be: [name_u]Florence[/name_u], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is too close to [name_u]Danny[/name_u]. You have a lot of great choices. From your list I like [name_u]Daniel[/name_u], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] are so sweet together. The l in all the names tie them together. Second choice would be [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. There is no l but [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is such a cute nickname. Other suggestions:

[name_u]Daniel[/name_u], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_u]Camille[/name_u]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]

Yes too close to [name_u]Danny[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourites of your options with [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] are [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

I agree with apparently everyone that [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is too close.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] Leonora… so special and solid. Also loving the suggestion [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
Suggesting:
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Julietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Briana[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jasmin[/name_f]
[name_f]Hallie[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u]

I like [name_u]Maria[/name_u], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], & [name_f]Julia[/name_f] best with [name_u]Danny[/name_u] & [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

Other ideas:

[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Adaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Amara[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
[name_u]Arya[/name_u]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Jordanna[/name_f]
[name_u]Julianne[/name_u]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Magda[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]

I think I’d reserve [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u] (together, or just one) for the middle name, because [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is really close to [name_u]Danny[/name_u].

Otherwise, would [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] be an option? I think it’s much less likely to get [name_f]Hannie[/name_f] than [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is to get [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. I would find “Danny and Hannah” easier to say than “Danny and Anna”.

[name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Anya[/name_f]? It’s just a slight tweak to [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but it then sounds different enough to [name_u]Danny[/name_u].

As for your other favourites, these are the ones I think best fit the feel of [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f]: [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Maria[/name_u], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].

I also think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is a really good fit, but might be a bit matchy with [name_u]Danny[/name_u] if you use [name_u]Penny[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] would solve that issue.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would work too, except that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] very much reminds me of names that are diminutives of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (Lisa, Ilsa). That’s obviously not a problem for the majority of people, just me because I know such things.

[name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] are great, but feel a little bit over-the-top compared to [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

[name_f]Leah[/name_f] and [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] are great matches to [name_u]Daniel[/name_u], but soundwise a little close to [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

Here’s some other names that came to mind for you:

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f]

[name_u]Cleo[/name_u]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_u]Rose[/name_u]

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_u]Zoe[/name_u]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]

[name_u]Laurel[/name_u]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]

[name_f]Therese[/name_f]
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f]

Like others, I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_u]Danny[/name_u] are too close. You could try a name with “Anna” at the end such as [name_f]Julianna[/name_f], [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f], [name_f]Leanna[/name_f], or [name_f]Susanna[/name_f].

Of your suggestions, I like [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f].

I’ll also suggest:

[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]

All of this feedback is amazing. What a great community this is!!

I guess I was right that many people find [name_u]Danny[/name_u] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] too close!

I am loving [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] more now (even though it does seem to have had an uptick in popularity lately) because there are so many great nickname options!

Also loving so many of the suggestions here. This is exciting! Thank you all!

I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u] is pretty! I don’t think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is anymore popular than [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is #83 on the US charts and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is #36 while [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] is #14. So you already have two very popular names and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is actually further down on the charts than they are! I think it’s sweet that it honors your mom as well.

Out of your other names, I think [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] would all fit really nicely too.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (Elisabeth) is one of my favorite names. A nickname I especially like is Lisi /Lizi (LEESE ee or LEEZE ee)

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Aly[/name_f] / [name_u]Ali[/name_u] / [name_u]Allie[/name_u]

I like that all the names would contain the letter L.
D@niel, Isl@ and [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (Lisi)
D@niel, Isl@ and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] (Allie)

If you are bothered by the difference in length between the sisters’ names you might consider [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or something from this list that are of Scottish origin as the name Isla……
[name_f]Edina[/name_f]
[name_u]Esme[/name_u]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]

Mairin
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]

So true! I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] FEELS less common because its popularity is so much newer but it’s interesting how even though everyone knows [name_f]Anna[/name_f] there aren’t so many Anna’s today! I’m so glad to hear someone thinks [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is still an okay choice, because I’m not quite ready to give up on the idea
