Claudette - yay or nay?!

I’m a huge fan of Roy Orbison - and while the Everly Brothers recorded the most known version of the song Claudette - it’s a Roy Orbison song that he wrote for his first wife.

I was listening to the Roy Orbison version of the song the other day and I realized how much I like the name, and would probably consider using it in the future, with the nickname Claudie.

I know from its entry on Nameberry, that our great leaders (Pam and Linda) think it should be left on the shelf, but I think it’s a vintage gem.

So what do you think?

NB: Bear in mind, I’m only 18 and a long, long way from having children.

[name]Hi[/name], fellow [name]New[/name] Yorker!

I love French names, and I think Claudette is super cute. It suits both young girls and older women.

Howdy!

I notice you’re in [name]Brooklyn[/name]; I’m only about 16 miles from [name]Brooklyn[/name] and I go to school there.

I think it’s classy. [name]Claudie[/name] is an adorable vintage-type nickname. I say, go for it (well, in the future).

I guess I’m in the minority, but I don’t like it a bit. I think the “-ette” names are still very dated, and “[name]Claud[/name]-” just sounds like clawed or the men’s name [name]Claude[/name] to me.

I agree with juno. I don’t love it. I’m not a huge fan of “-ette” names. I do, however, like [name]Claudia[/name]!

I prefer [name]Claudia[/name] over [name]Claudette[/name] myself. But [name]Claudette[/name] I think is still very sweet.

I live in a french community ([name]Canada[/name]) where [name]Claudette[/name] is a common middle aged, mom-name. It is dated and boring to me. [name]Claudia[/name] seems fresh and usable.

I like [name]Claudette[/name]. Yay.

Nay. I’m not that keen on it.

Hello, everyone! I think it’s difficult for the -ette and the -een names to sound fresh right now. I prefer [name]Claudia[/name] over [name]Claudette[/name] or [name]Claudine[/name] and really like [name]Claude[/name] for girls though that one would be tough to pull off so I probably would not in the end choose it for my daughter.

I just don’t like the “clod”. None of the versions really do it for me. All I hear is clod.

I love it! I don’t overly prefer -ette names, but [name]Claudette[/name] is one of the exceptions to that. I associate the name with the actress [name]Claudette[/name] [name]Colbert[/name], which is a lovely namesake.

These are my thoughts as well. I prefer [name]Claudia[/name] over [name]Claudette[/name].

I love [name]Claudette[/name] ! And I love [name]Claudine[/name] as well. My problem though is the meaning : lame.
