I just got a new student who is a [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] IV. I know we’ve got a thread on [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] for a girl, but what about [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] for a boy?
I’ve never thought about the possibility of a [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] being used for a boy’s name. Objectively, it doesn’t have anything about it that’s super feminine, but it just feels really feminine to me and for that reason, I can’t really imagine it coming into use for boys.
Actor Khleo [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] wears it well, thought the ‘K’ spelling helps. I agree with the above comment, [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] feels very feminine
I just don’t see any reason to use [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] for a boy when there are two very similar boy names: [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u].
I don’t like it for boys. Cleo is definitely a girl name to me! It’s spunky and not too feminine, but on a boy I’ll it just sounds off to me.
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] has been historically used for boys -in the early 1900s, it was at 257 for boys in the US
I think the O ending and similarity to [name_u]Leo[/name_u] makes it usable
While I wouldn’t use it, I would be pleasantly surprised to meet a male [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]! While my associations are feminine, the sounds themselves suit a boy.
It’s usable and as @greyblue said, has been fairly well used in the past. But I love it so much for a girl that I can’t really picture it on a boy.
It sounds so much like names like [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u], plus it reminds me of names like [name_m]Cliff[/name_m], so I don’t see why it couldn’t easily be a unisex name.
I know two! One is an older man in his 80’s and the other is a guy I went to school with, in his mid 30’s.
The older man is the only one I’ve discussed the name with. He goes by a nickname, but it’s because people had trouble with the name when he was younger, thinking it was Celo or [name_u]Leo[/name_u]. He said he really likes his name and was sad that no one really ever called him it.
It’s not a name I’d choose for a boy myself but I don’t see any issues with it.
Doesn’t really make sense to me as a boy name.
Yes, it makes sense to me when derived from cleophas
i think i’m in the minority here because i love it lol. i’ve never heard of it/thought of it being a boys name but the more i sit on it the more i love it
I’m not into gender-bending names but, I think [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] works for a boy because it could be used as a short form of the masculine Cleophus! And it fits right in with [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u].
I can totally see [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] on a boy. It fits in with the -eo names that are trendy right now (Leo, [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Mateo[/name_m], etc.).
Absolutely adore [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] for a boy!! It sounds very unisex to me plus it has been used historically on both boys and girls. I love it
love it !! i used to have the combo jupiter cleo sol !!
I know a boy named [name_f]Clio[/name_f] and it really works for him! I wouldn’t use it personally but I don’t mind it on someone else.
I have never heard it used on a boy before because I find the name to be associated with a girls name. It is hard for me to see [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] on a boy.
I’ve never heard it on a boy but it would be super cute. Not sure how wearable it would be as he got older. It’s definitely one of my favourites for a girl at the moment though.
