Clíona, Clíodhna

Hello everyone,

I am new here. I love Irish names.

This is a new favourite from Irish mythology. Clíodhna is the original spelling, Clíona is an alternative. She was turned into a wave in mythology.

It is pronounced klee-uh-na.

What are your thoughts? Hope I am getting some answers on my Irish names too, on other boards people don’t seem to care for them at all.

Thank you.

welcome to nameberry!

i’m happy to meet a fellow lover of irish names!! aoife and orla are my favorites for a girl, currently :tulip:

i’ve never heard of clíona, but it is gorgeous! it feels mystical and whimsical and strong. i think I’d use the clíona spelling just because it’s a little easier to pronounce that way.

overall, lovely name. thank you for sharing! :two_hearts:

Thank you so much!

I love the names associated with mythology so Clíodhna is a new favourite. I hadn’t discovered it previously.

[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] is so beautiful! I also like [name_f]Orla[/name_f].

I have had Clíona/Clíodhna on my list for quite some time! I love it.

Agree with this, although I alternate between the two spellings.

Likewise!

Oh my, someone likes Éadaoin! I am so happy. It is currently one of my favourites. I know that it is the more modern form of Étaín but I slightly prefer the sound of Éadaoin is is so lovely!

I love all of the others you listed as well but my favourites are Éadaoin, [name_f]Sadhbh[/name_f], [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] and Áine.

I also like [name_f]Meadhbh[/name_f]. I like the spelling you listed too.

Yes I like the original Clíodhna best too

Very beautiful, though I do find pronunciation (from the written name) difficult given that I don’t speak/read Irish. I came across the [name_f]Cliona[/name_f] spelling a while back and thought it would be like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] with a “C”! Oops!
