I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how my favorite artists reflect my naming style. Their vibes are quite similar to my own naming style, the energy they put of, the sound of their actual songs (I’m looking at you, Hozier ), and I thought that might be similar for some of you guys as well!
I have a little bit of free time before I start my college classes, so I thought it would be fun to try to play this combination of name guru to the berries and predicting your naming style based on your favorite artist!
Share your favorite musical artist below (and preferably a small description of the vibe you get from them/their personal style) and your favorite 1-3 songs, and I will respond with my predictions of what names you would choose!
I’m trying to base this off of vibe, and will be trying to disconnect you and your UC or style from this as much as possible. Obviously looking at it from an outsiders perspective, I might not exactly capture the vibe of your artist well, but I thought it would be fun! For example, if you said your favorite artist was Ariana Grande, I’d probably think you might go for something airy and feminine. Much as a personality test, this will probably be inaccurate, and is quite biased! I’d be more likely to give you girls names if your favorite artist is a female than not, as a heads-up! I do request that you keep it to one artist at a time.

@justagirlwholovesnam Looking at The Lumineers Instagram account, digging into your favorite of their songs, and your description of them, I found their general vibe to be nostalgic and sort of folksy. The following descriptions came to mind: folksy, a hint of classic, crunchy, outdoorsy, nostalgic, adventurous, heard-of but not overwhelmingly popular, neutral sepia, whimsical in a down-to-earth way.

So excited for this!! My favorite artist by a mile is David Crosby (both solo and in groups), specifically his stuff from the late 60s/early 70s.

I’d describe his style as a good mix between psychedelic and folk: cosmic american. Often very acoustic in his solo stuff, which I like. Full of ethereal harmonies. He’s very of the time-- his lyrics are idealistic, hippie fantastical, and center around my favorite peace and love values. Hazy, stoned, cosmic yet somehow earthbound, and full of heart . I just love this guy.

I thought looong and hard, because I listen to a lot of music and I don’t think I have a favourite… But I have been listening a lot of Kerli, Florence and The Machine, Ruelle, Lana de Rey these days. I think my favourite type of music is quite witchy, dramatic and very grand; very similar to @Greyblue’s taste (I almost made a similar list!).

@OctaviaMay Okay, this description is a little silly, but looking at The Sundays, I came up with the notes of: vintage art gallery, 90s grunge vibe, deep cherry, meaningful, longing, hanging out with your friends in empty sewage drains (reminiscent of Tumblr, haha!), running through fields in the chill of the night.
For the names, I wanted something spunky and spirited, particularly for the girls. I found myself drawn to names with a mythology tie, ones that felt mystical and a bit loud. Vibrant and colored!

I am a big fan of vocal and jazz standards, especially the American Songbook. I am also a lover of opera, although not so much of today’s singers.
Thank you for the suggestion! I really like Billie’s music. And I’ll note, it took every part of me to not suggest [name_f]Apple[/name_f]. She does not fit the style I was seeing, but I wanted to say her anyway!
Looking at [name_f]Billie[/name_f] Marten and her music, I made the notes of feminist, perhaps unisex, international feeling, a person who travels well, unexpected but not invented, a nature tie, a cold stream flowing over hot rocks, soft and flowy, more feminine than not but in a modern way, perhaps a fruit influence, poetic, European inspired, the bright blonde hair of Scandi girls.
The girls ended up a little bit more whimsical than I expected, but I do think that fits Billie’s style. I found myself drawn to names ending in vowel sounds and ones that included digraphs.

A name that one would have expected more on a boy in the past, but would be surprised to find wasn’t belonging to a girl in the present. Short, and a little more playful than the girls.

That may not be the most accurate selection because they’re more upbeat. Maisie’s music is witchy (she literally has an album called The Good Witch), girlboss/feminist, emotional/yearning. Her songs feel personal and she, as an artist, curates a sort of relationship with her fans. It’s like listening to a thirty minute voice note from your friend telling you about their breakup. But she also writes these deep harrowing songs about love for friends and family, comparing herself (and women in general) to [name_f]Helen[/name_f] of [name_m]Troy[/name_m] or [name_f]Joan[/name_f] of [name_m]Arc[/name_m]. Safe to say I’m obsessed, she’s been my #1 artist on Spotify for like 5 years.

I get the vibes from him of sun-bleached longhorn skulls, driving in a beat down truck, being happy with a lover, and stargazing on a hot evening in the west. [name_f]My[/name_f] top 3 songs by him-
Looking at [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Crosby[/name_m] and your descriptions of him, I came up with my own notes of fantastical, whimsical, not afraid to be funky and eclectic, likely woodland inspired, hippie, crunchy, unique even by todays standards, psychedelic, maybe a slight gender-bend, [name_f]Americana[/name_f] within the realm of liberalism, not afraid to make a statement, place names, towering trees in national parks.
For the names, I found myself leaning towards gender neutral ones. I’ve grouped them all together, as I can see them going either way! I really leaned into the nature feeling. His general vibe really reminded me of a nature guy laid back st0ner, maybe?
