Im sure this is well known but it occurred to me that with gender neutral bodysuits with pink or blue pants you can make an outfit more gendered easily and you don’t need as many pants!
[name_f]My[/name_f] girl was born in [name_f]April[/name_f] and Ill admit I didnt put pants on her until fall!
[name_f]My[/name_f] only complaint with gender neutral clothis is how it seems to all be shades of gray and white. I like colors!
[name_f]My[/name_f] baby was born in [name_u]November[/name_u] so shes needed some pants most days. I didn’t really try to buy gender neutral clothing for her, just stuff I could mix and match. But I did get a few white, grey, cream, earthy colored things snd its amazing how girly they look with pink pants
I guess if you want to buy clothes that are marked as gender neutral or unisex by the store that sells them, this is probably true. But we just “make” anything gender neutral if we want to: we avoid things that have “cute princess” or “tough boy” prints etc, and apart from that we just buy clothes from whatever section we want. Our sons regularly wear things that were in the girls section of the store. We just ignore the labels that stores put on clothes.
This!! I’m about 10 weeks and it’s so hard to find gender neutral anything. We’re finding out but not until Easter, and of course now is when there’s sales on sleepers and such I’ve managed to find a few with pops of colour to them, but it’s hard!
I’ve also noticed that boys clothes here are all graphic prints (like “Tough little dude” or covered in either trucks, bears or dinosaurs) and the same 3-4 colours, where as girls are a huge variety, but all with something added to make them “girly”. I’m in Canada and nearby, I only have a few options for baby clothes, and except for Carter’s, they have a small or non-existent section for boys or gender neutral clothes. The girls’ section occasionally has things that could work for either, but typically has little bows added to it for no reason to add “femininity”.
My best luck so far was with H&M and BabyGap for gender neutral
Check out Primary.com! Not sure what shipping to Canada would be but I plan to get my girl some pieces from there when she’s a bit older. Right now all her clothes have either been gifted from from family or I got a bunch from our local Buy Nothing group on Facebook.
Unfortunately they don’t ship to Canada As for handmedowns, I only have one niece close enough in age to get handmedowns from, but I should check out Facebook groups. I do typically see a lot of very gendered clothes on Facebook - usually a lot of like, bright, vibrant pinks and things that straight up say “girl” on them, but maybe I’ll find something! My SIL said to try taking a road trip to Toronto as there’s a lot more small shops there and a lot more neutral items available at the higher end department stores too, so I may have to try that.
I do like the idea of coloured pants with plain onesies too! I’ll definitely try that - I havent actually bought any pants yet
[name_m]Ive[/name_m] gotten most everything from Target and Old [name_u]Navy[/name_u]. [name_m]Ive[/name_m] actively avoided stuff with words since they don’t seem cute to me. Most of her clothes are shades of pink and neutrals so they are simple to mix and match. She had a pair of striped black and white pants that really jazzed up most any outfit and I think could work easily for a boy. I was just daydreaming about future children and about which clothing Id like to reuse
I’ve been anxiously awaiting the reopening of the land border between Canada/US so I could go back to Target to get baby clothes I was there in [name_u]December[/name_u], just before I got pregnant, and then about a week later cases started getting worse and we haven’t been able to go back, lol. They’re reopening again at the end of the month thankfully!
There’s a lot more dept. stores in general in the US so I feel like I’d have more options there too Also noticed huge price differences - at Target i can buy a swaddle blanket for $9US ($11CAD), but here, it’s about $21CAD ($17USD) for a similar one
I’ve noticed for unisex basics, H&M is really good if you don’t mind green for everything
Gendered clothing is a subject that always gets me a bit too wound up.
I don’t believe clothing has a gender.
Here are some of my daughter’s clothes that are stored because they’re either too big or small.
A lot of them are hand-me-downs from boys and girls and I would have used the exact same clothes if we had had a boy.
I recommend Parade Organics in Canada. https://parade.ca/
They’re organic and have nice colours and practical growsuits with fold-over mittens and feet (the best type of baby clothing there is in my opinion).
Yeah I agree I guess Im really just talking about clothes that give a certain look. I think parents should dress their babies however makes them happy. My idea was more related to ways to switch up a look and reuse clothing than anything else.
Oh no! Im so addicted to Target! Their swaddle blankets are really nice! I don’t really recommend the smaller receiving flannel ones since my drier has made them quite worn but they are a nice size when holding tiny newborns.
Yeah, reusing and making combos is great. I love having just a few basic onesies and pants in colours I love and then mixing and matching
If you want colour and bold patterns, Duns [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] is great.
For pretty and colourful prints there are also maxomorra (SWE), frugi (UK), kite clothing (UK), piccalilly (UK), pigeon organics (UK) and milkbarn (US)
Tilly and Jasper retails all of these except for milkbarn and has international shipping for £12 (they also have a sale atm) https://www.tillyandjasper.co.uk
For beautiful solid colours at least:
L’oved baby (US) https://www.lovedbaby.com
kyte baby (US) https://kytebaby.com
goumi kids (US) https://goumikids.com
Parade organics (CA)
For Australians my faves are:
Susukoshi
Marlow & Mae (These linen pieces are incredible)
Some are a bit and some a lot more expensive than supermarket brands but they’re also organic and ethical. It’s also good to hunt for the sales.
I love Piccalilly, but since brexit ordering online from UK stores has become such a hassle
I know this wasn’t really a thread searching for gender neutral clothes but if anyone is I’d highly recommend kickeepants. They use bright colors and patterns but they use the same patterns for their ‘girl’ clothes & ‘boy’, sometimes they’ll put a ruffle on something and they do make dresses and skirts but generally speaking they’re just baby clothes, just a sweater, just a shirt with a cute pattern and color without screaming ‘IM A BOY’ or ‘IM A GIRL’ and I love it!
