I’ve been loving the name [name_f]Clover[/name_f] for quite some time now, but have never been brave enough to add it to my list, until now. I did a bit of a search for a general idea on what the opinion of [name_f]Clover[/name_f] was, and found a thread from mumsnet (which, I honestly don’t know why I look at, because half the time, if the users dislike a name, they become borderline bullies about it), and, a decent number of commenters were very positive about the name, a portion mentioned that it sounds like a cow’s name (but since I love [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], etc, that doesn’t bother me at all), and, another large number stated that it sounds/looks very masculine and they would expect [name_f]Clover[/name_f] to be a boy.
Erm, I’ve personally never met a [name_f]Clover[/name_f], but I certainly wouldn’t guess that it’s a male/unisex name - I’d picture a little girl, much like any other flower name, because traditionally, they seem feminine to me, and I’m rather traditional about naming. However, is it possible that [name_f]Clover[/name_f] is masculine? What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Clover[/name_f]? The combination I am thinking of is [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
If I loved [name_f]Clover[/name_f], I would use it as a nn for [name_f]Clothilde[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] or [name_f]Clothilde[/name_f] [name_f]Veronique[/name_f] or even something like [name_f]Colette[/name_f] [name_f]Veronique[/name_f].
i think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] sounds harsh, but it is great for a nn.
If you are looking for some middle for [name_f]Clover[/name_f](which I think may sound silly on a boy unless it was strictly a nn):
I love [name_f]Clover[/name_f], its on my list as well. I think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] sounds very feminine I don’t know why its listed as unisex. I love flower/ nature names (my cat is called [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]) and I really like unusual but recognizable names. I don’t think it sounds like a cow name but I love most names considered cow names as well. I really like both of your combo ideas although personally I wouldn’t use another name with the same first initial. I really like the idea of [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f].
I used to love [name_f]Clover[/name_f]. Then [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] the First (Disney channel show) came out and she has a male rabbit friend named [name_f]Clover[/name_f]. 1) he’s annoying 2) he’s male and so now I’m always associating that stupid rabbit with the name. I’m sure if I met a little girl named [name_f]Clover[/name_f], I’d go right back to loving it though. I think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a gorgeous combo!
@ashleyjuliette [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are beautiful, thank you
@thenameprincess I was surprised by that too, to be honest, it seems very feminine to me? [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is lovely, especially since my mum is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]
@lovebugsmama I have seen a few episodes of [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] the First, but I’m not sure it’ll be overly relevant when I have children, then again, I’m betting my parents didn’t expect [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] or Spongebob Squarepants to last as long as they have…so who knows? Thank you! [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my favourite at the moment too.
I like [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] is really that out there, but even if it were, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] grounds it and makes it more serious and traditional.
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] is one of those names that I want to love, but can’t see myself using. I’d love to meet a little [name_f]Clover[/name_f] but I almost feel like until I do, I can’t really picture it on a real live person? Anyway, I do think it’s usable, especially if paired with a traditional name like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
Thank you! I personally thought it blended well with [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], etc, but the comments I was seeing said otherwise haha.
Thank you I totally know what you mean about not seeing it on a person yet, I have a few names I’m like that with.
I think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] is adorable and totally useable, and honestly I think of it as a girl name first, but that’s also because there was a cartoon called Totally Spies that I used to watch all the time and one of the main characters was a girl named [name_f]Clover[/name_f].
I would definitely assume [name_f]Clover[/name_f] was a female, but then I’ve never seen that program with the male [name_f]Clover[/name_f] in it.
I think people’s hesitation with it compared to other flower names might be it’s association with the butter (or butter like spread) since clover is a brand.
I know of a girl called clover and she has always been called [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], and I’ve often wondered if that was the parents being bold picking the out-there name and then kind of back tracking on it afterwards and the far more commonly recognised /accepted name became predominant. I imagine for her that “clover” is now what she is called only when she is getting told off or having her name called out in the doctors surgery!
I like the name [name_f]Clover[/name_f]. Granted, it’s my dog’s name, but I can picture it on a human girl. It doesn’t seem masculine at all to me. [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is my favorite between your two combos. I’m not sure I can picture it on an adult, but then I’m used to using it on my sweet little fifteen pound dog child.
Er, well, where I live, naming your kid ‘Weed’ is like naming them Marijuana, so I’m not sure I understand what you mean, unless you mean a weed as in a Dandelion? In which case, Dandelion is used as a name from time to time too.
I used to watch it as well, [name_f]Clover[/name_f] was my favourite (Likely because I was also blonde as a child and any blonde tv character who wasn’t seen as the typical, ‘weak link’ became my favourite).
I am aware that it’s a brand in the UK, but it’s not where live, except maybe [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_u]Leaf[/name_u] tuna, which isn’t overly popular in my area. I have seen [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] used as a nn for [name_f]Clover[/name_f] several times, it’s rather cute really, but I think I’d prefer [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] separately.
Thank you I am leaning towards [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (and the previous suggestion of [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]!), and honestly, I’m not crazy about this whole "the name doesn’t work for an adult’ concept, because I’ve seen it said about my own name often enough, and I’m a nearly 20 year old [name_u]Haley[/name_u], and I’d like to think I wear my name just fine I just feel like a name will grow with the wearer, and, by the time I do have children, I know that names will have changed, and cuter names will either be more acceptable, or I’ll have moved to another country due to my chosen career, and I’ll be living somewhere where that style is more ‘accepted’?
I think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] is cute I definitely see it as female. However I see it more as a name for a pet. We actually had a pet rabbit that my daughter named [name_f]Clover[/name_f].
