Collecting Stripper Names

I think your list is awesome and accurate and you seem really respectful. However,

“Most strippers are from sexually abusive backgrounds or drug addicted. I don’t judge women who have had a hard knock life so harshly.”

I haven’t found that to be true. There are a lot of reasons to be drawn to the work. Some of us like the money/ flexibility because we are artists/ students/ want to travel/ have expensive hobbies/ are single moms/ this is a jobless recovery. You seem to be coming from a place of empathy, which I definitely appreciate, and for sure some dancers are not in a good place. Most is a big word, though. And the negative stereotypes out there about us being pathetic trainwrecks are duhumanizing in addition to being inaccurate. I have found that most strippers are more vivacious, pragmatic, witty, tough, empathetic, and clever than the general population, whatever happened or is happenning now in our lives outside of work.

“Strippers tend to pick whimsical, naturey, exotic, or trendy names. [name_u]Madison[/name_u] is probably the most common stripper name I know of. [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] is also pretty common.”

Yup.

"I have known strippers with my first and middle names and have no doubt there are plenty if strippers named [name_f]Diana[/name_f], and I plan to name my daughter that. \

I haven’t met any strippers named [name_f]Joann[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Margarite[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], Etc. That doesn’t mean those are better names."

I had a manager named [name_f]Joanne[/name_f]. I have danced with a [name_f]Marie[/name_f].

So…[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering WHY you are collecting stripper names?

I agree with @ella17… why are stripper names being collected?

In all seriousness (like @lemonthistle said), I know highly educated (from top universities in [name_u]America[/name_u]) women who are very sexually liberated and just do this business for the fun of it when they are young. You really don’t know where the other person is coming from…
it’s like that song Hotel [name_u]California[/name_u] “Some dance to remember, Some dance to forget”. (and no I wasn’t trying to be cheesy, no pun intended)

People do things for different reasons.

Yeah, well it just seems to me like none of you know many strippers. I think you ticked off the MOST common names on the list, seriously.

LOL, [name_f]Electra[/name_f] is a very popular name for strippers. [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t you heard of [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Electra[/name_f]? [name_f]Raina[/name_f] I have never heard of; I think the person who suggested it is a wee bit young to know a bunch of strippers. Yeah, I think that the point I might be making here without meaning to is that a lot of times I see names get shot down as stripper names when the vast majority of people who would use this claim don’t even know any strippers. If the name is exotic, whimsical, or trendy, it is probably a stripper name. I just named off the ones I could remember.

So what? You guys really are offended by that, and like I said I intended no offence. The point is not everyone knows and associates a name with stripping just because the name happens to be common in the industry.

I was around the business for long enough to know what I know of it, but I don’t associate women with being “trashy” because of their jobs. Strippers are just human beings like everyone else and the industry is built on fantasy, hence the names are often ones women wish they had in real life.

Some of the names on my list were trashy in my opinion, but I think the majority of them are just trendy names. And I agree, these are fantasy names, and women come to this website to fantasize about names they like. … It doesn’t surprise me that there are a lot of common names.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] because someone is named something like [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] (my name) or Dantea’s [name_u]Angel[/name_u] [name_f]Starr[/name_f] doesn’t mean someones a stripper. I’m tired of seeing these generalisations. In Australia [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] has been top 100 since the 80’s it was off the top 100 when I was born so my parents gave me a popular name. I wrote this on my blog a little while: am an [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] so I think I have a right to say telling someone that they have a “stripper name” or a ghetto name it’s not nice. Ok so I may prefer Ebs to [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] and [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] to [name_m]Eb[/name_m] but I am not a stripper I am a teen at a catholic high school. You could say well there have been no sucessful [name_f]Ebony[/name_f]’s well what about Ebbenny Faranda she is a newsreader not a stripper or something like that. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because you name your daughter [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Diana[/name_f] does not make you a better person then the mum of a [name_f]Maddison[/name_f] or that the [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is a better person then the [name_f]Maddison[/name_f].

Oh and also I have only ever got the “but your not black” comment twice and I’ve never been made fun of because of my name.

[name_u]Madison[/name_u]* – It’s so widely used!
Strippers are superstitious about money. We like to give ourselves names that remind us of money. [name_u]Madison[/name_u] Avenue.

[name_f]Jazmin[/name_f] – this is just [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] creatively spelled
All spellings of [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] are super popular stage names for strippers right now. I suspect due to Disney movie [name_m]Alladin[/name_m]. Flowers are sexy. [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] smells good and grows in exotic places.

[name_f]Ebony[/name_f]
[name_f]One[/name_f] of the sexiest words in the english language for something black. It’s expensive and beautifuly and exotic.

[name_u]Sierra[/name_u]
Mountains are cool and far away, I guess? It’s a new sounding, not frumpy name.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
Mrs [name_u]Ohara[/name_u] was pretty romantic. The clue character was hot. [name_u]Red[/name_u] is a sexy color. It rhymes with harlot.

[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]
Russian names are exotic and elegant feeling and are not commonly used. They sound expensive! All strippers love cats.

[name_f]Bella[/name_f]
Means beautiful. Short enough to be v easily understood in a loud room. Pronounceable in many languages.

Belladona
Awesome for a goth stripper. (there are many) Literally means beautiful women and implies poison for extra badassery.

[name_u]Simone[/name_u]*
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] wrote some great songs. It’s sleek and french sounding-> classy.

[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]*
see [name_f]Katrina[/name_f]. Also, the princess.

[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
Naturey, tomboyish and wholesome can all be profitable angles. Simple so easy to hear in a loud room. Trendy in the 80’s, so maybe reminds a guy of a crush from high school. Real sounding.

[name_u]Kimberly[/name_u]
see [name_u]Brooke[/name_u].

[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
Jewelstones are always good. Expensive and beautiful.

[name_f]Alexa[/name_f]

super femmy, I think. Girlish sounding. Ms Spears?

[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]

[name_u]Stacy[/name_u]
See [name_f]Britney[/name_f], [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u] and [name_u]Brooke[/name_u].

Ok, well then if every name has been used as a stripper name at least once, why even stereotype any name as a stripper name? Theyre just names, right? So then no name is a stripper name because strippers have apparently used every one, or all names are stripper names and the general population just isnt aware their daughter/sister/mother kate has a stripper name?

I think the point im trying to make is that if there are strippers named [name_u]Madison[/name_u] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f], whose to say what names are stripper names? Why are you even compiling a list if every name ever is going to end up on it?

And another thing; no ive never met a stripper, and no i have nothing against them. Why should i care what someone else chooses to do with their lives? I never said strippers couldnt be educated, but why name yourself [name_u]Madison[/name_u] if youre looking to be exotic? [name_m]Little[/name_m] off the mark.

This is getting a bit personal, and I’m already getting my butt kicked all over the place. I like to stir up trouble, but not hurt feelings and I think I owe everyone an apology.

But, I heard that speech about making extra money for college/travel/clothes a lot in my day, but it never really seemed to be the case. Sure, I knew strippers with college degrees. I worked in [name_f]Atlanta[/name_f], so perhaps the industry is different in other places. And that was several years ago, too.

And to get further off topic:

There are not a lot of women comfortable with being naked in front of random people that have not in some way had their sexuality exploited by somebody who normalized the idea of nudity in that way. And while some of us come from hippie parent households where nudity is not seen the same way it is in the mainstream, we still don’t tend to then sexualize and profit from it. It takes ‘something’ to push us to that point. I know you hate being associated with trainwrecks, but the fact is that it’s the gateway to the sex industry, rife with drugs and dysfunction in the vast majority of the business, and you have to be around these people too, and even worse the men who support their lifestyles, whether my description fits you or not. That doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of good women doing this for a living. So, I can understand if that makes you feel defensive. But, I remain unconvinced that you represent but a very small fraction of this industry, and I have worked with women who have left the industry enough to say I am not going just based on a year or two in [name_f]Atlanta[/name_f] when I identify a pattern to the kind of women the business attracts. They are mostly victims, some just don’t know it.

Trashy? No way. I have compassion and respect for all women, ESPECIALLY if they take off their clothes to make money. I just wish more of them respected themselves.

OK, well there is one trashy stripper name I just read about: Pye Thang. That’s AWESOME.

Bc the names can be fantastic. And it’s fun. The same reasons to make lists of any other kind of name.

Because I keep seeing people talk about what is a stripper name. I assumed rather incorrectly that this meant people know what stripper names are.

Then I hope I have helped people realize that having a stripper name is not the end of the world.

I find stripper names tend to be fun. It’s really not that complicated. You guys are making this way too complicated and getting really hung up on it. I have a name some people call ghetto, for example, and especially people who don’t KNOW what ghetto is. They throw the word out there “ghetto”, and it just shows me how ignorant they are.

A good example is the name [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f]. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name, even though it’s used by tons of strippers, it’s a classy name to me. And unquestionably stripperish.

I’m really feeling kind of bad here. I didn’t think this through before starting the thread, that it would get under people’s skin so much. Also, I feel like a terrible person for snickering at all these stripper-a$$ names some people have and don’t even realize it. It’s not that the names are stripperish, it’s how offended people are that I’d even suggest it. Like, on one hand I feel bad that I offended them, on the other hand I think their reason for being offended is actually rather judgmental and offensive to me and women they don’t know! I am not making any pals here, that’s for sure:-(

Anyways, I forgot about [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] and [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f], too. [name_m]Both[/name_m] cute names. And very strippery.

Given that strippers are human beings, I would assume their names are representative of generational demographics. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like everyone else.

You don’t have amber there?

Aside from the debate about strippers’ motives, virtues, and socio-economic status going on here, this could be a decent name game. I’m going to answer this question as if [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] [name_m]Larson[/name_m] was asking for suggestions for stripper / drag queen names for his new musical. (Funny, I don’t like the names [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] or [name_u]Angel[/name_u] much at all, although I love most everything else about Rent.) I’m not saying that any of these are trashy or would be bad on a child; rather, I just think they would sound cool as stage names.

[name_u]Ivory[/name_u]
Teak
[name_f]Mahogany[/name_f]
[name_f]Cherry[/name_f] (I like the expensive wood aspect but perhaps the double entendre is just too much…)
[name_f]Cherie[/name_f]
Armani
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f], [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_f]Diamond[/name_f], [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]…any precious stone
Platinum
[name_f]Azure[/name_f] / [name_f]Azura[/name_f]
[name_f]Astra[/name_f]

Now that I think about it, [name_u]Angel[/name_u] might be the most masculine name that would fit for that character…[name_f]Charity[/name_f] and [name_f]Charis[/name_f] are the only other things I can think of

I don’t care for the completely ironic virtue names like [name_f]Chastity[/name_f], [name_f]Temperance[/name_f], or [name_f]Virginia[/name_f]

My parents are middle class but I’m still [name_f]Ebony[/name_f]. I agree and disagree with this though I think I’m going to have to stay out of it.

[name_f]One[/name_f] of the girls I went to high school with became a stripper. I hear she goes by Pussy [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. Is that on the list?
No offense, but this thread is boring. [name_f]Every[/name_f] few months someone decides it would be so interesting and creative to create a thread about stripper names…

Well, given names, yes. But also, picking a stage name comes with a different set of rules than naming a baby or a fictional character, and I actually think it’s kind of fun to talk about in a general name nerd way.

And, like the op said, posters here often comment that a name sounds like a stripper name, when what they mean is that a name sounds trashy or hypersexual. I do think it’s worth showing that strippers use many very cool and respectable names as stage names. The term “stripper name” is used inaccurately in the forums here. I def appreciate the op addressing that.

Features of a good stage name:
easy to hear correctly in a loud room
easy to say in many languages
easy for the dj to pronounce correctly
not used by another dancer in the club
starts conversation
memorable
conjures a persona that it is fun for the dancer to inhabit

Possible good features of a stage name

  • doesn’t remind customers of someone they know. This is a reason to choose something very rare/ made up/ new/ extravagant or a word name. (Alternately, some dancers deliberately choose names that were trendy in a previous era, bc this might remind customers of their first girlfriend, highschool crush, etc.)
  • glamorous/ silly/ hypersexual/ fun (Alternately, some (many) dancers choose very real sounding names bc their hustle is making the pretense of authenticity.)
  • versatile in vibe (Some dancers like to become a different person with every customer. Some dancers have one very specific hustle.)
