Hi everyone! One of the names on our list is Collin to honor my Great Grandmother Colleen. I want the double L’s since Colleen has two. Anyways I asked my mom what she thought and she suggested Collen which is a real name. However I’m worried if people would pronounce it Call-Len or like Collin (Call-Lin)? It’s a middle name option so it’s not tragic if said both ways but I am gearing towards Call-Lin pronunciation. Also does Collen look girly? I’m not a fan of girly looking names for my boys. TIA!

I’d say [name_u]Collen[/name_u] as call-len. I don’t find it girly at all.

Honestly, I would think [name_u]Collen[/name_u] is a typo of [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] (which is my mom’s name so I get wanting to honor- I think the double L accomplishes that just fine) and so did my autocorrect

I would also say Collen/Collin like pollen. [name_u]Collins[/name_u] might be another nice option

I would say [name_u]Collen[/name_u] like pollen, and in my accent that’s more of an in sound at the end.

Honestly, I think the difference in the sound of -lin vs -len is so slight that it’ll be fine either way. Everyone will still hear the right name. :slight_smile:

At immediate glance, I was thinking it was pronounced like colon :woozy_face: but would have assumed it was pronounced [name_m]Colin[/name_m], just with a unique spelling. I love the idea of [name_m]Cole[/name_m] for you. [name_m]Cole[/name_m] very much honors grandmother [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] and has a straightforward spelling/pronunciation

Call-len and Call-lin end up sounding pretty much the same when I say them. [name_m]Collin[/name_m] and pollen rhyme to me.

However, I think [name_m]Collin[/name_m] is sufficient to honor [name_f]Colleen[/name_f], and I feel that [name_u]Collen[/name_u] would get mistaken for [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] frequently.

I would use [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] the actual name. It is super cute. I don’t think there is a problem with pronunciation.

About most other names I would agree but [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] literally means “girl”, so I don’t think that’s gonna do it for them lol

To me, it looks like someone forgot the second e on [name_f]Colleen[/name_f].

I agree with this. I’ve looked at this post a few times, and every time I look at the thread title in the notifications pane, it takes me a minute to realize it isn’t a misspelling of Colleen. Sorry.

[name_u]Collen[/name_u] looks like a typo of [name_f]Colleen[/name_f]. I would stick with [name_m]Collin[/name_m]. The connection is very obvious.
