We have [name_m]Crispin[/name_m] and [name_u]Asa[/name_u] as our narrowed down list for baby #3, but my husband hates [name_m]Crispin[/name_m] (but is appeasing me by “considering” it) and I don’t love [name_u]Asa[/name_u].
I started thinking about [name_m]Collin[/name_m] today and I have never considered it before as a FN. It honors a close relative named [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] and it isn’t overwhelmingly popular but definitely not unheard of.
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] is the most popular and traditional spelling of the name, but we do not want him to be called [name_m]COLE[/name_m]-in (like [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_m]Powell[/name_m]). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think spelling it [name_m]Collin[/name_m] will cause spelling problems? It seems like it’s either one or the other…but [name_m]Collin[/name_m] is nearly as popular as [name_m]Colin[/name_m], so maybe not?
What do you think of [name_m]Collin[/name_m] in general?
You shouldn’t have any issues spelling it [name_m]Collin[/name_m]. It’s a very common way to spell the name, if not the traditional way. I like [name_m]Collin[/name_m]. It’s handsome and not too popular, but reminiscent of other popular -n ending names.
I really like [name_m]Collin[/name_m]! Hearing the name I would definitely think of the [name_m]Colin[/name_m] spelling first, but since [name_m]Collin[/name_m] is also fairly common like you pointed out, I don’t think it would cause too much trouble.
I’ve never seen it spent with a double L… I would automatically write [name_m]Colin[/name_m]. So I would be worried about people getting it wrong all the time - but maybe it’s a location thing.
The name itself is fine - simple and handsome. However I do find it a bit “generation specific” as I don’t know any [name_m]Colin[/name_m] under 35, and most are in their 50s.
It’s funny—until coming on this site, I did not know that [name_m]Colin[/name_m] was the most popular way to spell it. All the [name_u]Collins[/name_u] I knew growing up used the double L. So I may be biased, but I prefer that spelling. It’s quite a lovely name!
Like any name with multiple spellings (I have one of those names too), [name_m]Colin[/name_m]/[name_m]Collin[/name_m] will likely have to spell out his name sometimes, no matter which spelling you choose.
