Collins, as a first name, for a girl... >.>

My partner now knows that I have an active account on here and is amusing himself by trolling me.

So this was his charming ‘suggestion’ but I thought it would put it out there, to see if others have the same visceral response.

I think it’s too much of a surname to be used as a first name on either gender, without actually being a family name.

It’s the name of the (real life) daughter Blind Side but since the movie is set on the American South I assumed it was the old tradition of using a maiden name as a first name.

It’s a surname meaning ‘son of [name]Colin[/name]’. It’s not a proper name.

Reminds me of the Collinses from Pride and Prejudice. Not the most positive association.

In any event, I think [name]Collins[/name] is one surname that doesn’t work particularly well as a given name. I could see it as a middle name for either sex, though, especially if there is a family connection.

I am with other berries that [name]Collins[/name] isn’t my cup of tea for a first name, especially for a girl.

I very much dislike it!!!

Why not just [name]Collin[/name]? Why the S?

Meh, not really my thing. I do have a guilty pleasure for boy names on girls, but if I were to actually see this I’d be wondering: Collinna, maybe? [name]Colleen[/name]?

I’m with you here. Why not just [name]Collin[/name]? It’ll be a pretty name for a girl or a boy.

I don’t find it appealing for a boy and I find it very unappealing for a girl. As a pp mentioned, it also reminds me of Mr [name]Collins[/name] from Pride and Prejudice. shudder

I will mention that tho I am not a fan of the name, there is a [name]Collins[/name] that is a girl at my son’s school. Now that I know the person attached to the name, it doesn’t bother me too much. Tho anyone I mention her to thinks she is a boy.

I’m pretty sure that the appearance of [name]Collins[/name] in the girls’ top 1000 is because of the character in The Blind Side. I’m pretty sure it’s a family surname for her, and I have no clue why people started using it for their daughters…

I like it. Lol.
